Talk some sense into me (or not!) Offered a trade I'm not sure I can refuse...

ramzoom - you're preaching to the choir. That's why I'm selling (or trying to sell) those Chevs. Maybe it's just me, but around these here parts, a lot of guys I know are sitting on old car projects because no one wants to buy right now. I'm already asking about half of what I originally offered them for, so ANY reasonable offer is hard to ignore.

6tall - your name reminded me of something I hadn't even considered until this moment. I have wanted an old pickup truck for YEARS, but I really have a hard time fitting behind the wheel of any pickup truck made before 1950 comfortably. A panel would be close enough for my happiness and comfortably accommodate my tall ass as well.

A friend I talked to this afternoon suggested I get the truck and write it off as a business expense for my art/design stuff... not a bad idea.

I can't wait to see some pictures and talk to this guy again. Tuesday or Wednesday will be a long time coming this week.

  2. You say $500 is gonna cover running power to the garage, but will it also cover the running water for the bathroom, and the Murphy bed, or are you gonna sleep in the panel and "shower" at the gas station? :D

Sorry, somebody had to do it,
    Kurt

  7. What he said. Even if you gotta clean up the panel and primer it up a little.

I haven't even really driven my panel truck and I love it. Little hard to see out of, especially when backing up, but small price to pay.

  9. Get the panel truck. Think about swap meets and all the parts you can bring home.

  10. do it and if ya dont lke it...pm me I'd love to have one for a driver

Yep and remember, it always looks better in pics, and it always costs twice as much as you think it will

That has a lot to do with my decision. I can't wait to hear back from this guy. He says he can have pictures to me by Tuesday or Wednesday, but I'm tempted to make the two hour drive to see the best in person and take that test drive. Tuesday or Wednesday is a long way away and only makes it that much longer til I can see it in person.

    Soooo........Hows it look and drive?

  20. get the panel...make the trade...running and driving panel...it's gotta be a done deal...take my panel to the swap meet all the time...been driving it more than my 63 riviera...very useful and you just don't see them everyday...especially an f-1 and it sounds like wifey likes the idea...I have my panel for sale and my wife wants me to keep it because I use it which makes me wonder if she is gonna allow me to use the money from the panel to finish my other projects? Buy now pay later...as in pay for not getting permission to spend bux on parts for the other stuff...but honey you said to keep the panel...blah blah blah...DO IT...MAKE THE TRADE!

Still waiting to hear back from the guy. I spoke to him Sunday afternoon and he told me a bit more about it and said he could get some pictures to me either Tuesday or Wednesday. I've been refreshing my email every 15 minutes it seems for the last two days, but nothing yet. I figure if I don't hear from him by tomorrow evening, I'll give him another call. I don't want to be a burr in his ass, but I don't want him to have second thoughts either. I'm kicking myself for not jumping at the chance while he was in my driveway. In hindsight, I have no idea what I was thinking. Cripes, even if I hated it, I know I could turn around and sell it for more than I'm asking for my Chevys tomorrow. Even though the thought of driving that panel around sounds cooler and cooler every time I think about it. Don't worry, I'll keep you guys posted.

  22. I am sure that guy is out there. I gave my ex gf half of my shop if she got a car for it....she never did. I am still looking for the looker who can fill up the other half of the shop!

    And buy the panel!

Just got off the phone with the guy. He says he has someone who is supposed to show up with half the money for the truck this weekend. :( He's not sure if the guy would come through, but said he'd give me a call. Oh course, he also mentioned that his, "old lady was trying to talk him out of selling it altogether". Dammit woman!
So it's a long shot at this point, but I'll give him a call this weekend. Shit.

Yeah, I've heard the "show up with half" thing before myself. I just got off the phone with another guy who checked my cars out last weekend and he wants to come by again this weekend. Maybe if a deal goes down I can go wave 48 Panel Man's full asking price under his nose in cash ... I mean, he did talk to me about it first and maybe his "old lady" will like the color of my money. I hope something works out.

  27. +1 on this

  28. Do it and tell Mother that the panel is the new plow truck.
