6'-1" and I have a 29 Coupe and 29 Pickup. In the coupe I was able to push the seat back so that's not so bad. But the PU has much less room, especially since I need to have more swinging room for the clutch pedal. I had to angle the steering wheel just right so I could still fit my knees under it. And it definately takes a little skill to get in and out of the PU. Even though it's more cramped, I can actually drive the PU farther before needing to get out for a stretch. 2 hours between rests is about max.

I'm 6' 2" and I've never thought about the size of a car's interior. My channeled deuce pickup makes me think that maybe I should have thought more about it. It's very tight in there. My dad's '57 t-bird is tight for me as well (what a coincidence!). His has less than 70,000 documented miles. :)

I'm 6'3 and i fit in my coupe great.4"chop 3 1/2 channel. When i am driving it the last thing i think about is the comfort factor, I'T IS JUST TO DAM COOL> PINCHER

  6. At 6' 4" I have had 3 chopped cars,,a 39 Ford convertible and a glass 32 gibbon 3 window and a 32 roadster,and I was much younger and in my 20's and 30's,,I don't think I will own another chopped car,,,

I have gotten older and broken a few bones and comfort is where you can find it in a Hot Rod,,my ol' 4 door is fairly comfortable on long trips,,my 32 pickup is un-chopped but it has very little room yet I prefer to drive it more than my sedan,,even on long rides.

I guess the best riding and comfortable Hot Rod I ever owned was a 40 Ford deluxe sedan. HRP

  7. My dad recently sold his. (it was a bummer because we have had it for 15+ years, like part of the family) It was a wyoming car with two previous owners. I believe the T-birds of america club, or something like that, certified that it was one of the first 12 of the assembly line because it had a dummy bolt on the front bumper that was left over from 56 design. the car was unchanged and well documented so there wasn't a chance it was faked. But it was a son of a bitch to get in and out of with the hard top on. I actually hurt my fackin knee one time doing a contortionist act trying to get in it. but she was pretty. I just know I couldn't own one, especially as I get older and stiffer from football injuries.

I'm only 5'9, but I have fairly long legs. My Essex isn't chopped or channelled, but due to the 11" firewall setback I barely fit behind the wheel. The truck is incredibly uncomfortable to drive for any more than half an hour or so. I plan to yank the slant-6 out and drop in a boring old SBC so I can put the firewall back where it belongs.
I'll try to get pics with me behind the wheel before I start the transformation in the spring.

I am only 5' 11" but I moved my seats back on my 30 tudor 3-4 inches. I am tall in the legs; short in the torso. I could barly work the pedals before the move :)

Talked to Graboski on the telephone when I ordered my skull gearshift from him some years ago. Described my bucket being the front half of an early 20s touring car. He said,"How tall are you!". I said 5'9". He said "I knew it! If you were any taller you couldn't drive it." He is right anybody much taller than a Munchkin can't get their legs bent enough to drive a steel T.

I'm 6'4 and my son is 6'8. You should have seen us the first day in a AD p/u. We moved seat back after removing gas tank and thinned back of seat. It is alot better. Will do the same with my effie. After this I just deal with it, it is what I want to drive.

Still not sure how we manage it ,but I manage to squeeze my 6'2" 270lb frame into the 1930 model A tudor that we race at Bonneville,it has a healthy 6 inch chop and a 4" channel then a cage ,plus me wearing a 4 layer nomex fire suit and a crash helmet.
I didn't say it was comfortable!!

I'm 6'6" and it has definitely prevented me from buying a cool old truck. I toyed with the idea of extending a mid 60's chevy pickup with an extra cab. Decided it was a waste of a nice extra cab. Sedans it is.

Some how i just knew i would run across one of these theads some day

I stand 5.7 and my model a is chopped 7 and channeled 3.5.I drove her tp Billitproof this summer which took three hours to get there and by the time i got to the hotel room i felt like somebody hit me in the lower back with a 30lb sledge....But damn i looked good pulling up.Had to lay down for an hour to recover...NOT LOL

  17. I'm 6' 5" 260#. Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup doesn't have any extra room, it's OK on short trips but I wouldn't want to drive her cross-country. Ozelle the '55 Ford (4 door with stock bench seats) has a lot more leg room and is more comfortable.

  18. Car design back in the day wasn't really meant to be like laying in a cloud i suppose. I think people just had to be tough and deal with pain. But most people when these cars were new already probably had pain from manual labor and those shitty beds they had. ;)

I'm only 6' but them thirties cars sure are small. About 10 years ago I built the car I always wanted since high school; a '36 3-window with a 3/4 race '50 Merc, a '39 box and 4.11 gears. I sold it after 5 years because I couldn't drive it a long way because I'd start cramping up.:( I've never had that experience in any other car. A buddy of mine had a '36 dodge pickup; I could hardly fit into that. As an aside, when I bought my current DD, I found one I liked, but my head hit the sunroof when I had the seat adjusted like I wanted. The dealer finally swapped another dealer for the same car without a sunroof, and I fit in that one.

I want a 30's car and was looking at a Model A, posted here. My buddy said the exact same thing to me about folding in and out. He is bigger than me but his concern was if any of our large friends wanted to ride they wouldn't make it comfortable. Well now I'm looking for a 33-37 if I can find something reasonable or done.

Yup, I try to sit in a lot of different cars to see how I'd fit if I ever wanted one. My brother has a '34 Ford p.u. that's got a healthy chop and I can barely fit in it, I'm 6'2" about 215. My brother is a little shorter and thinner, really pays for it when we go a long roadtrip. I tell him he looks like a gorilla riding a roller skate as I pass him in my '46 Chevy coupe with the stock comfy seats. I built a '46 Chevy pickup because I wanted more room in the cab than my brothers pckup; even with a 4" chop it's got room, not a lot but enough. On the other hand I got stuck in the door opening of a friends Model A RPU trying to get in, once in my knees were against the dash, of course he's about 5'6"....

6'3" has kept me from chopping my 34 PU; BUT the 32 3wd that was chopped 5" and channeled 6" in 1948 is going back together with the same attitude (and altitude) only this time will have a double Z'd frame to get the floor down and no package tray behind the seat....gotta build 'em to DRIVE ALL DAY if necessary

As the old saying goes, "You can't pack 10 pounds of horsedung in a 5 pound bag", but often with just a little resizing or rearranging of controls and/or seats you can get a 6'plus 200plus pound hotrodder into a 20s-early30s car.
It helps if the car's suspension works and the seats have springs too.

I'm 6' 5" 255 lbs. and wide as a doorway. Had an itch for a vette when I was younger, beautiful car looked it all over under and on top, got in and "$hit" found out I'd have to drive it tilted on my side! Also on early trucks, I've found the stock seating works best if the cab is small. One of the hardest parts about building a rod for a tall guy is the placement of the pedals and steering wheel......

    6'4" 215lbs here....

My 49 AD is chopped 4.5" still had lotsa room above my head with the crown...then I sectioned it...was gonna section it 3" until I figured out that the headliner would be touching my skull....I didnt like that idea (and that was already with a lowered seat) SOOO I sectioned it 2.5" and kept a half inch between me skull and the headliner....I'll just have to keep the seatbelt tight I guess.

Funny part is after I realized this and sticked it up and assembled the truck to get a visual I decided that 3" would be too much cut out....I never thought a half inch was a big deal till then....course might just be that I'm too critical.

  30. I am 5'4"tall my 37 pick up is chopped4" and channeled about 6". I spent a lot of time setting the pedals and steering wheel placement and seat position.
