The kids and I were on the way to a buddies house about 60 miles away and I decided to go back roads. We were about half way there and my seven year old daughter yells daddy stop. I asked her what was wrong and she says there is a old car back there like yours. I wasn't going to go back but she was really excited so I turned around. When we got back to the house where she said it was I turned in the driveway. Sure enough I see the back 1/3 of a old Ford sticking out from behind the house. I knocked on the door and was greeted by the old man that owned it. He said it was not for sale and that he had owned it since 1952. He was more than happy to show it off so I grabbed the girls out of the car and went to check it out. It was a 1940 ford coupe in unbelievable shape. Turns out that it stays in the garage but he pulled it out because he had to replace the ceiling in the garage due to a leak in the roof. Sat around and bullshitted with the old timer for probably two hours and listened to some of his stories about the car over the years. He was having a blast with my girls and told me that none of his kids had any kids so he never got to spoil any grand kids. His wife even baked cookies while we were there. I would have loved to have been leaving with that car but I honestly think spending the morning with Sam and his wife was just as cool. I left him my name and number and the number of my buddy just in case I move. He said if the time came he would give me a call if I promise to let my little girl drive it once in awhile. I will probably stop by from time to time just to shoot the shit with Sam whether the car ever comes up again or not. Oh yeah my car is a 52 Plymouth so Alexus was right about an old car but it was not just like daddy's. Actually it was much cooler than daddy's.

Great story and I suspect you and your girls made some friends for life. Please do your girls a favor and stop by from time to time to see that couple. Your family and theirs will be richly rewarded.

Dude that is awesome. I can understand about listening to the stories. Made a new friend too. It was well worth it even if you never get the car.

thats a great idea, boys on bikes generally know every alley in town and find their way into all kinds of places. I remember I knew of every old car in the area, even a few that were hidden in garages that hadnt seen the light of day in 20 years.

I left there yesterday feeling better than I've ever felt with a new car. My girls can't quit asking about them and asked if they were their new nana and papa? I talked to the kids and since their mom is in Iraq and Sam and Hazel's kids are out of town I think we are going to offer to take them out to dinner on Mother's Day. I didn't have a camera with me but I need to take one next time. I hope that they got as much out of yesterday as the kids and I did.
