Got close to "dead" a couple of years back...didn't care for it so I guess I'm still learning. Still building anyway.
if i see something that is well built I'll check it out even if it's not my style to see how if I can use some in a build. I do projects for customers everything from installing suspension on electric 3 wheel scooters for the handicap. street rod, bikes, hydro planes and feds, and everything overlaps and somethings can be applied I try to do the best I can within a customer budget
More updates, If youve been reading the other rules posts you know Im removing the non legal engine and installing a legal 270 GMC. I picked up on eBay from a fellow HAMBr. It looks just right in my car because my ch***is is a bit longer/taller than most. So heres a pic of the old engine leaving and the new one getting ready for install. The new engine also required a rethink on engine mounts as its a front mount/bell housing set up. I had an extra transmission cross members left over so I trimmed it to fit and added some overkill bracing. I'll also add mounts for the bell housing and with the trans mount this engine will stay put.
Nicely done...make sure your fuel tank is big enough to feed those five carbs for a p***. Good thing fuel mileage isn't our goal with these things.
Looking good, nice work on the front engine mount. You do know that anyone with more carbs'n me has to spot me a length per extra carb, right?
Oh yea, thanks; now you tell me. You could have said something sooner! Would have saved me a bunch of time asking everyone how these things go together.
Been distracted looking for work. Nonetheless, I did get some work in on the car. I roughed in a ****tershield cover as the GMC bellhousing and built the exhaust header. Now working on the clutch pedal/linkage and then on to the floorboard. Skip
Skip I said it before and will continue to do so ... you are incredibly talented !!! This thing will be great !!!!
I'm getting close to final fabrication so it's time to pay attention to the details. The rules say we have to run a H.A.M.B. logo. I've searched the Jalopy Journal store and there's a water decal, but nothing more substantial. Is that what you run? Any ideas? Also, I need a car number and would like #33 however I'm not sure who's handing them out (although Joe Hamby has the "Burnout Rollcall"). Thanks - Skip
Car's lookin' great, Skip. For those of us that do the HAMB logo everything from hand painted ones to the decals has been done. We've been using the firewall tag that comes with the annual HAMB Alliance membership, from our build year of '07. I'm saving one of the two old style br*** tags I got for when the car earns it by hitting 12.500 (only .440 to go ). They're not easy to find but sure are worth the hunt. It's identical to the one in this picture.
Hi Skip, nobody hands out the numbers, just pick one that you think that is not being used. And good luck with your car. It looks like a great build. A toy should be bright. Joe
Well, I’m amazed how complicated these cars really are to build. Next up, determine what shape the engines in and rework the 3 Holley 94’s and build the throttle linkage.
ditto, you're making great progress...great to see. any more detail shots of how you sorted your steering or pedals or 'stuff', interested to see more... Cheers, Drewfus
Haven’t worked on the car much as the work search comes first. Nonetheless, I did find time for the carb scoop. I know it’s a bit ambitious but there’s big inch Jimmy’s out there that could use that much scoop. Here are some shots of the steering and pedals. I reversed a Corvair box and cut off the splined section of the steering arm and ****-welded it to tubing for the cross shaft. I made a new steering arm from ¼ inch flat bar and welded it to the cross shaft and left the end open to get a socked into to tighten the cross shaft to the box. As for the pedals I made the clutch out of ¼ flat bar again with a cross shaft welded through the frame. For the gas I bought an inexpensive hot rod splined pedal set up to start with. I separated the splined part from the pedal and made a cross shaft to span the distance to the carb location on the left side and rewelded the spline to the cross shaft. Had to fab supports for the cross shaft but the pedal is adjustable for different drivers. For brakes I mounted a Mustang MC with a Ford brake handle that I extended, simple but effective. The cars packed away for a few weeks, but I’ll soon get it out and get to work finishing it up for next season.
@font-face { font-family: "Cambria"; }p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal { margin: 0in 0in 10pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: "Times New Roman"; }div.Section1 { page: Section1; } Im in the process of sorting out my engine issues. The GMC 270 was a supposedly good running engine when I picked it up. Well, it leaked down at 50%, so much for good running engine claim! At least it was a solid core engine. So I pulled it apart and its at the machine shop to get sorted out. Its going to need the usual stuff and new pistons fitted. Ill regrind the cam while Im at it. Im trying to s**** together enough money to finish the engine and make Eagle Field. Good think my wife likes me!
Looks great Skip! I joined the Allience, so I have a HAMB firewall tag coming. I'd be happy to send it to you, if it would help.
