Oh! Yea, she's gonna get put on. The guy who I have lined to do my lettering does airbrush too. So, she'll get on the cowl.
Got Miss Fortune cranked up tonight. I just got home and I'm beat, but smiling ear to ear!:hooray: I'll sleep good tonight. I had a few glitches and I'm almost embarassed to mention them, but I will so no one else does the same mistake. First off, I had disconnected the line for my oil pressure guage at the engine block and forgot to plug the fitting. First two cranks and oil sprayed everywhere. Took 2 seconds to figure that out. Second, I had forgotten to tighten up the tranny lines coming out of the tranny. Spilled a little, but should have checked this stuff before hand. Thrid, I had forgotten to tighten up the gas line coming off the tank. Spilled about a half pint of gas. Yea, I was trying to be in a hurry and missed the little things. After cleaning up and calming down, I connected the battery and fired her off. Ran a little rough at first, but the sound was music to my ears. No video due to how late it got and just being too dang tired. I'll do one tomorrow.
Thanks! I'm pushing for BURNOUT on the 28th. It's never a good thing being in a hurry, but lesson learned. I hope to do a test drive Thursday. Hope all goes well.
Tonight I worked out the bugsand let her purr for a while. Well, actually for afew times! I do believe I'm gonna make "BURNOUT"! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjPSgrc6v8c
All day at work, I was mentally torturing myself. Would I be able to mount my body without spacers? Would the steering box line up with the new column setup I'm going with? Would the profile be right? Would aliens land and put my car back together? All was answered. The body dropped right on. I won't need spacers because the reason I needed them last time was to clear the Lokar shifter mount. The steering column line up perfect and so did the holes in the frame where the body bolts on. So here she is. I didn't have time to bolt in the steering column permanantly and I'm starting to miss not being able to work on my car after work as long as I want. But she's coming together at a good pace and I think I'll roll her to my job Friday and do an all nighter on the wiing. With any luck, a test drive will occur Saturday morning. So, here's a shot. And this is her GREAT side! Notice how the shorter radiator and the body sittig an inch lower enhances her "down low" look. The grill shell is chopped and will be on soon. I am freakin' STOKED!
Fred, You are kickin' ass. You're on the home stretch now, be careful and it will come together. I also have to say, I completely agree with the radials for as much use as you give that car, but you sure ought to get a nice set of wide white bias-plys for show dates. MissFortune is one sexy lady! Give her some dancing shoes!
Thanks, Scotty. I really appreciate that. I looked at the Cokers and maybe I'll drop the $ for them later on. It would sure make her "POP".
This morning, I looked forward to thrashing on my car and doing a test driv, then rolling out to Burnout. Miss Fortune had other ideas. First was the shifter that was given to me. It was missing the shifter bracket that comes off the tranny, so I made one. It's fairly close, but I don't have 1st gear. I do have park, reverse, neutral and drive, so it would do for a little while. It's also a bit large for the interior and will most likely get replaced soon. The next hurdle was the steering column. I'm using one from Speedway and the floor mount is from Total Performance. It took the rest of the morning to get them to work like I needed it to, but it came out great. I then connected the wiring with the exception of the lights. I just wanted to be able to start the car and have it run off the alternator. This was easy to do because I had labeled my wires when I tore the car down. So, I was looking rosey and it was about 3:00PM. I filled the radiator and turned her over. SUCCESS! But then I noticed that the radiator has a leak. Right at the top edge where it meets the cooling fins. So, I'll see how much it is to get it fixed, but depending on the estimate, I may just get another one. Probably a Mustang unit. So, a complete day. I made some progress and I'm glad. The radiator was a freebie, so I'm not out anything and it may be a quick, cheap fix. Oh, before I parked her for the day, I did drive her outside and let her sit in the drive way. It felt good to be in her again and have her moving under her own power. She'll get done and today was a good day for us. My big regret is that I didn't get her done for the Houston Burnout Cruise today, but there will be other cruises and we'll be there in great form.
Congrats! minor setbacks and a missed run will fade with the coming season of tooling around in your rebuilt HOT ROD! I'm so glad it worked out for you, between your mom and the wreck, you sure got tested. We will need pics and video of it toolin' around.
Here ae the pics of where I am as of today. In the first pic you can see the shock bracket and headlight bracket that RM made for me. They fit ike a glove. I used the Monroe #5752 shocks and cut the top sleeve off, as I had read about on a thread here. I gave Miss Fortune the old "jump on the spring perch test" and they will be more than adequate. Ignore those nasty looking bolts, I'll have grade 8's on her tomorrow. Here's a pic of the steering column installed. I still need to mount the support, but that is a minor detail. This evening after work, I installed the headlight brackets and headlights and was going to call it a night, but I just HAD to mount the signal switch and tach. I just had too. I'm not sure if you can se it clearly, but the B&M shifter a friend gave me is a good shifter, but the cover for it is way too large and it will be in the way of my foot getting good placement on the gas pedal and we all know how important that is. So, I'll either make a smaller cover for it or get a more practical shifter. We'll see. Here's the view I hope to have when I take her for a spin VERY soon. Now for her good side. This is not the radiator I'm going to use. It has a leak and a Mustang radiator is cheaper than the estimate I got to fix it. I may fix it later, as it looks to be a 4 core. I'll see. The grille is just placed on for these pics and because I love how it looks. Thanks again, Flatheadpete! So, that's where I'm at. Tomorrow, I plan to hook up the throttle cable, tail lights and hopefully reconnect all the wiring. Depending on how long that takes and the weather (it says rain and cold for tomorrow) I may get a test drive in. Fingers are crossed!
Those front spindles you are using, what are they originally from? They look to be to be from a 1950's Cadillac.
First off, thanks for posting the before pics. Kinda made me glad to see how far I've come. In a weird way. The spindles in the pics you reposted are from Total performance and are based on early Ford spindles. The steering arms may be throwing you off.
Considering it was a really crappy day here, weather wise, I got a few more things knocked out. The auto parts store dropped the ball on my radiator, so I worked on installing my tail lights and knocking out some rewiring. I was in a good groove, I guess and just about finished doing the whole car. Alls that's left are the front signal lights. I gotta admit, it was a cool feeling to turn the key and hit lights and have them work. I'm really going to miss watching the lights shine through those wire wheels. The signals in the rear wouldn't work and it may be either because the front ones aren't hooked up or there was damage to the signal switch. The front signals will get hooked up later when I finish dealing with the radiator/grill issues and I'll confront the flasher issue then. So here's a few pics: If the passenger light seems dim, it is. I had a bad ground, but after I fixed it the camera died. Here's a shot of the way cool license plate bracket RPM did for me. If it's to dark, it reads: "Failure To Yield". It's gonna be a pleasure explaining it to folks. Here's a little better shot. And finally, a profile shot.
Nice car, and glad to see you getting it abck together so quickly and with nicer looks, as well. I don't want to pee on the parade, but I did not happen to see this mentioned in the thread. The angles on your rear Watts linkage are all wrong. The arms should be parallel to the ground and the vertical link should be straight up and down. You put a lot of miles on the car; you might want to review the situation in case anything needs to be changed around back there.
No piss here. When full weight, like it is now, is placed on the frame, the bars leveled out. All is well and thanks for looking out.
FURRRREDDDDDDDDDDD!!!! Glad to see your progress! And about that radiator, it's damned hard to find a good shop anymore, maybe you should ask around. Seems all they care to do is sell new stuff! Oh yeah, forgot to mention something about the motor mounts you used on the first build; those things had a habit of breaking, so they superseded with a version that has an interlocking finger, so even if the rubber is torn loose from the steel the motor will be retained. This was a problem in the full bodied sedans that were run hard, the driver's side mount would tear loose, the engine would lift under power, and sometimes the fan would hit the shroud, or even the throttle could hang-up. I was surprised to see those in the tear down pics, and I hope you now have the other/better mounts.
