My first ever contribution to a tech thread,so go easy plz!
Starts with installing the door gl*** in my 50 Merc. All is well, then when I roll the window all the way down,it binds, and will not roll up. HHmmmm....
After making sure nothing is binding, lubricating all pivot points, the light bulb turns on-
63 yr old regulators tend to wear a lil (ya think?) So basically, the regulator with its play, drops the gl*** channel just enough to allow the pivot arms from the regulator to go past it's "fulcrum",and binding,as it cannot arc on it's travel upward.Kinda going from a possitive to a negative.
Seen many stops on regulators before(newer than the 50's),and it hit.....
    No stop.
So- I made a stop for the gl*** channel. Had to jive the regulator at full rest, but also setting the gl*** below the door line. A simple stop made from some aluminum, locked w/ vice grips for testing up and down, then drilled through the regulator arm and attatched.
The channel bottoms out at full rest(window down) at it's correct height. Once cranked up,it separates, not to be touched again. Everything clears, works like a champ.
I'm sure this will work an anything with this problem. Just gotta stare at it a while......
Pics show installed at rest, starting to separate, and arrows show links that "reverse" or "bind".
Easy breezy for worn out regs!
