When disposing of things, I usually make sure I have absolutely no use for something, even if it's use could be unconventional. I saw a box of brass paper fasteners we were about to throw out at work. How long has it been since you've used these for their intended purpose? I thought that since they were brass, weld wouldn't stick to them; so they might be useful as a backer for welding holes shut in sheet metal. I figured: grind around the hole, insert paper fastener from behind, MIG around the opening, grind smooth. If you didn't want to hold it in place with pliers, you could expand out the little tabs as well. I gave it a try:
take a big bow dude! bet the guy that invented those would have never imagined them being used for that!
I have a Falcon that needs some trim holes filled also....Goin to Staples and pick me some of them thing-a-ma-bobs up!
A great idea for fixing those holes. I use them to repair my paperback books. Seems some of the large format auto type paperback books fall apart on me now and then. Since I care less about looks and more about the function I drill holes thru the whole book and use those fasteners to hold them together. Then I cover the the fasteners with heavy packaging tape to protect fingers from any sharp edges. Ugly but effective.
