TECH Cheapo 235 Chevy Split Exhaust My way

  1. "peening" is the word your looking for. preheating really helps and stress relieving the welded area is a must or shortly after the weld you will hear a 'pop" and their will be a hairline crack running the entire length of the weld. using cast rod is slow and expensive. brazing is "old school" but works damm well!

It's really nice, and not to be a downer or anything, but welding a manifold is really tricky, and with as much welding as you did on those, there's a very good chance they'll fail. Nice though.

This is a Corvette manifold, (not mine) did you give any thought to keeping the heat on the left and using a block off plate and adding a flange for the right half? May be easier?

Anyway, hope your welds work out. I know that when I installed my Fentons it was like having an extra half gear as I go over the pass to the Shenandoah Valley, same can be said for the "X-pipe". This is on a daily driver only vehicle.

There is still a good deal of heat transfer through the metal of the manifolds even without the valve open. Without some heat to the base of the intake, one day, when you least expect it, most likely on a cloudy (high humidity) or rainy summer day, your motor will die as you try to get it to the side of the road. You will have to wait for the ice to melt out of the base of the carburetor.
