The casting date code is K 4 3 and the build date is 11 09 so it was cast Nov 4th, 1963 or 73 or 83 and it was assembled Nov 9th that year. The suffix FAW means it is not 1963 (they only used two letters in the 60s) and probably not 1973 (three letter codes, but they started with C in cars and T in trucks). My guess is it's from 1983, does it have a head with an integral manifold? also is there another number sequence stamped on the side of the block? it would look like 1EL123456 the second digit would be the year, either a number if it's from the 70s, or a letter starting with A in 1980.
I've got one for you...51 Deluxe, original motor was a 216 (JAA)...this has a 235 in it and the only number on the tag next to the distributer is F II 3OH. The problem im having is identifying it, as the state i'm in requires physical inspection of the id #'s for transfer of title. The original engine # is on the title not the body number, and i need to have the body number used.
The 235 could be a 57 truck engine, they used the H suffix I don't know how to solve your title problem...that's up to your state DMV.
working on the title problem..was real curious on the motor though...it seems that the # is small and doesn't corespond with the normal sequences
The number system for Chevy engines changed in 57 (I think that was the year), they stopped having a sequential number, and only have the plant code, date, and suffix letters. Earlier engines had an actual serial number on them.
Ok, here is my dilemma. I recently bought a 72 chevy pick up. I was told it had a 350 in it. After going through some of the numbers on the block, here is what I got: 3782870 casting number F0625RQ Engine suffix code 333882 and E135 on the heads So far I've found it to be a 327 with 350 heads? Can someone tell me what kind of vehicle this stuff might be from? I've tried that mortec sight but nothing comes up Thanks Ashley
could be a 64 vette 327 300 hp manual trans block. What's the date code on the back? should look similar to the E 13 5 code on the head The heads look like mid 70s smog heads off a 350.
I have a similar situation. I have a 1990 K1500 with a 350. I know it's the right engine for the truck, but it was made in Canada and I'm trying to find a crank kit for it. The problem is, no one seems to list a crank that works with this engine code. Is there a corresponding American code for these engines? The code from above the bell housing is 10054727 and the one from front below the head is K1205UPK. Any help you can offer will be much appreciated.
the first letter in the stamped code K is the engine plant, I don't know what that one is.... F is Flint, T is Tonawanda, M is Mexico and my books don't go that new
Thanx for all that great info Squirrel. Much more than I ever had a clue about, lol. I did however know about mortec and recently confirmed the number on 64 Vette 327. What great site that is
Found this online. Don't really know if its acurate or applies here though K - Kosai http://www.nastyz28.com/decode.php
Ok, Squirrel, I have one for you. We've got a a SBC at the back of the shop bearing this number: 10429CKF. I have searched, and come up with nothing relevant. It is NOT a late-model engine. It has big-truck style motor mounts, long water pump. a really long filter, 2-bbl Rochester, and an HEI distributor. Any ideas?
Nope... HEI was first used in 75, and the three digit suffix was first used in 1970. The Cxx codes were used in cars, truck had Txx, pretty much through the late 70s. I don't have a truck book newer than 1972
Yeah, not much about the setup seems to make sense. I suspect it's a mongrel. Found the code, re-used on a later engine, but nothing else.
Mr. Squirrel, I'm the proud new owner of 71 Chevelle... vin Identifies the car as such. The auto trans with a flimsy clutch peddle made me scratch my head. My numbers... Partial Vin/ Code- 16S106183 / V0821CKT (I'm 98% it is a C and not a 0, O or D in the suffix) Block- 3970010 Date- H205 Composition- 010, 020, 178 I've seen the Z28 site- CKT 1972 350 tur hydramatic LT1 255 4 Z28 But the date stamp says 5.... 65' or 75'. That casting wasn't made in 65 (i think) and I don't think they were making engines for a 72 in 75? Thecamaroguy.com said this- 1970 Chevelle 396cid, Manual Trans. 375 CKT 1970 Nova 396cid, Manual Trans. With Aluminum Heads. 375hp CKT This excited the shit out of me, but also furthered my confusion. I can't find the suffix OKT, DKT, ect... I've tried the combos and none of it makes sense. Thank you guys for any and all help! It's much appreciated!
The partial VIN says it's a 1976 car that it was installed in (second digit is year). So we look in the handy 1976 car suffix listing, and see that CKT is not there. Interesting. But it is a 350 block, and it was in a 1976 car built in St Louis.
Need help I.D.ing this engine. It's on a 1977 Chevy Cheyenne 1/2 ton 2wd Automatic Transmission. Owner says it's a swapped 350? and Trans was swapped before the engine so I'm guessing the ID on the edge of the bell housing wouldn't help, but here it is 11K10b050 and the lower case b I think? has for example a dash, or like a line, or like the top of a capital I or T with the b ? Stater motors from several Auto parts stores do not match from the one off the Truck. Well, this ID stamping is on the front end of the engine deck of the block, on the passenger side, behind the alternator 13Y128343 and then in bigger stamping K11 28 CKL also went to the Chevy Dealership thinking they would definitely know, but they said the computer data only goes back to 1997 and could only do vehicles Vin #'s anyways? 13Y128343 K11 28 CKL
i too need help identifying my motor. it is a chevy inline six. i have seen all the linked sights for decoding the stamped number but do not find mine. the number next to the distributor is F0616CC. i know how to decode that but cannot find the CC designator at the end. any help? the block number is 3923418, which i cannot find either. the car is a 52 Chevy Styleline Deluxe. the car was modified to fit this motor in. I can tell where they cut and moved the radiator forward and it still barely clears the fan blades. please help!
I have a 1951 Chevy pick up 1/2 ton 216ci, 4 gear with gear column at floor, the serial number of the doorside is 2JPE11510 but the engine number is JAM337392, I already search and serial number fits with a 1/2 ton truck assembled in tarrytown on may 1951, but engine number fits with a passenger car or a series 1500 made in tonawanda. Questions: It's the original engine?, what's the difference between a series 1500 and a 3100 truck?, in case of been non original engine actual engine have any diference with original one?, I live in Chile where old american cars are really rare and difficult to find, and I think is very low probably that my truck had a same year engine originally made for a styleline or a fleetline, in here those cars are really strange and never had 4 stroke gear box, then last one: the transmission number could confirm or denied my doubts? Why's is the secuence it must had? Thanks a lot...
OK - I just drove this home, but don't know the year it was made. I believe it is from the late 20's, 4 cylinder. The stamped number is 3943307, the cast number is 348582. Below that, cast in the block is a chevy symbol followed by a '4' and below that, 'A58'. Can you identify when this engine was made? Thanks
Never mind... I just learned that 28 was the only year this engine had 2 exhaust ports. This one has'em. Thanks anyway Rusty
FiO6KD All I know is that it is from Flint. Built on 10-6..i can't find"KD" anywhere.. If anybody can help it would be great thanks!
I have a 1962 Willys Wagon that my dad replaced the engine on and I have no idea what it is. Unfortunately dad passed away 4 years ago so I can't simply ask. It is a v8 and the identification marks I can find in front of the head above/behind the alternator are: 10U156702 V11070NV I cannot find what this is. I think it is a Chevy made Nov. 7, 1960 (or 1970) I cannot find anything else out. Hell I don't even know if that is right. I need to know displacement, etc. so I can rebuild it. Anyone help? Thanks
Great info here. I read an old post of yours and have to ask you Squirrel: What happened to your big block 61 Bel Air project? You can probably guess from my username why I wanna know. LOL
3956618 cast in the block tells me it's either a 302,327, or 350. Number on the pad is 19J284584. That tells me it's a '69 Chevy and where it was built, but no other info. Any ideas? I don't really want to tear it down 'cause it runs good. Any ideas? Thanx, Norm
I am having trouble finding the suffix code info for an inline six that is in a 66 Grumman Olsen Kurbvan I recently purchased. the number is F1029XTA which from what I know means that it was made in Flint on Oct. 29 of some year. Since it has a three letter suffix, I read here that it must be from a 70s or later vehicle. Anyone have any ideas on that the XTA means? I have dug around and can't find that particular code or anything very close to it for that matter. The casting number 328578 means it is a 73-84 292. The J263 is October 26, but 73 or 83? Does the X in the suffix mean it was a crate engine? There is no partial VIN. Gotta love the codes. Thanks, Tom
