I scored a complete add on wiper kit for a Polaris Ranger ATV. If you have to buy it from the dealer, it can cost $240~280. First, I removed all the stock vacuum ***embly, cables, etc. Also the heater box came out cause I needed to get my hands under the dash. And I was left with a little room to work with.
I discovered the defroster vent is right in the way. So I removed it. And in it s place goes a new motor. I used some s**** angle bracket to fashion a very high tech piece to keep it from wiggling around. The factory stainless, chrome and nut all fit perfect. I used the arms and blades from the kit.
</br> So after replacing the vacuum switch with a cheap, simple push off, pull on and a $9 relay, I have wipers that work. Total cost including a fuse panel is under $30. I'll keep my eye out for another set. I luckily got this kit for $12.50 in a unclaimed freight auction. The blades are a bit long and the two motors don't stay in phase all the time, but I don't plan on being out in the rain too much.
Nice job making use of free parts. What's your plan for the defrost vents? Are you going to just leave the holes empty or try to rig a way to get some other airflow to the windshield?
Yeah I wonder about the defrost as well... it's actually more important than wipers to me (Rain X kicks as).... Otherwise nice job...
Will those wipers "park" when you shut them off? If not... you had better find a friendly MVI inspector (like me)
not to rain on your parade.. but I think 55 chevy wiper motors.. BOLT into 51- 54's.. maybe someone else can confirm? either way.. great work of adapting the wipers to your setup
The state of Idaho requires windshield wipers on all road driven vehicles. They do-not however require you to have a windshield.
I've heard that Texas has that same law requiring wipers, but not requiring a windshield. When did most manufacturers start putting electric wipers on their vehicles?
