TECH: Drop tube axle and jig

    Why would welding mild steel to 4130 be un safe? If you can weld mild steel to its self and 4130 to its self. Then to weld the two together should be no problem. I would like to hear some one with real metalurgy knowlege answer this. Does every moly built car have moly seatbelt tabs and so and so tabs welded to the moly car? BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION. I went to a well known machine shop one that cuts splines and gears and talked to the head guy about buying the material. Because I wanted the right stuff. And he sold me a chunk. It isnt 4130 , I forget what he said it was. Some sort of pre hardened weldable something.

    There's a lot of armchair "Metalurgists" around who forget these are cars, not Space Shuttles.
