I saw the thread on the dropped rear bones and thought I would post some dropped front ones. I needed to get some clearance for the tie rod so I dropped the bones down. The new end fittings were cut from plate and rounded with a grinder. The donuts for the perch bolts were turned on a lathe and welded on. The tubing for the bones is model A. I am making another set as the tubing on the car is a little pitted and I want to get them chromed at some point. The car has been like this since built in 91.
Great job Andy, looks like you have a lot going on there, Dropped 32 heavy axle, dead perch for the spring and those nifty dropped radius rods. Good post.
Andy, a couple of quick questions. 1. How does the shock mount attach to the axle? (front side hidden) 2. The spring leaf appears to have a couple of "****on head" bolts through the top; was this to shorten the distance between the spring eyes? (shorten the spring by folding over) The idea and the execution looks GREAT!!
The axle is steel so I just welded a plate on the front of the lower flange. It was done a lot that way before bolt on lower mounts. The spring is fibergl*** and the ****on heads hold on the fitting for the spring shackle.
