Tech.. Hidden switches and MP3 Amp

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Taildraggin, May 28, 2009.

  1. I needed a solution to hide the airbag switches and get some sounds in the Poncho.
The old radio did not work so I decided to use the stock radio push ****ons and volume control to do other tasks.

Stripped out all the old internals and mounted some micro switches to operate off the radio push ****ons

I bought a cheap amp off ebay, cost about £6. Removed the volume control and on/off switch and linked it up to the radio.

ran all the wires to a socket on the side of the radio so its easy to remove. Speaker wires connect direct into the amp and the lead to the Ipod can be run into the glovebox.

All installed back in the car.

    Nice job - very slick.

I'm currently wiring my car and thought maybe I was going too crazy with the tie wraps until I saw your work. I a slob and a slacker compared to you ;)

I did the same thing in my Buick, even used the volume knob to control power and such.

My bucket has a similar amp under the seat for control. Ipod amps are a great way to get sound from a compact package - good work.

  16. How do those little amps sound?

That's the best airbag control solution I've seen.

You Sir have too much time and talent on your hands! All my hidden switches are toggle switches stuffed under the dash because of my jacked up half *** wire job! ;) If I didn't stuff them up they might get tangled up in my Flip-Flops when I cruise to Taco Bell!

Awesome. One problem though. What if your p***enger doesnt like the song thats playing...hits a ****on and you lay frame at 80. I guess its not really a problem if the p***enger knows their role and keeps there hands of your radio.:D

  22. I have linked the on off switch to the amp and the old tuner knob is now linked to the volume pot of the amp

At the moment no but future plans is to have a docking station hidden in the ashtray

I have one set up in the garage and its sounds pretty good

Nice job! Seems weird to see a radio that's as big as a suitcase.
