This weekend I watched my buddy walk up and grap a piece of metal I had JUST welded. The dumb ******* actually watched me weld it. You could see his skin sticking all over it. I just DA'd the skin off last night. Serious good times right there.

Some cautionary words..taking off old flaky, peeling chrome trim can be like grabbing a handfull of razor blades, or even walking by an old flaky bumper..sharp cutting tools are safer than dull ones..never push or pull tools with your body in the path..wear ear plugs now instead of later..don't trust floorjacks, especially Chinese ones, they are secret weapons sent over here to slowly do us in...from an old ,deaf, scarred up, short fingered, grease monkey....

Dont try holding a piece of steel up with one hand while using the 4 1/2 in grinder with the other and trying to turn the grinder for a better angle, You end up with a nice groove ground out of your finger for that one.

In that same vein, I've heard people say it's not safe to use a grinder with gloves... but don't fully understand the reasoning behind it. I get that loose cloths get caught in spinning things. But this doesn't fully make sense to me. As long as your gloves fit, what's the issue?

  6. Wish I'd had some gloves on when I used the 4" grinder with a wire cup to remove the excess skin off of the middle knuckle of my left index finger last year.

Unfortunately if you're using the thin 1/16"" cutting disk it doesnt really matter, they slice through leather gloves, skin and bone equally, its a wonder I have fingers.

when i was putting in new gas and brake pedals into the fairlane a few years ago, i was grinding the welds off and not wearing gloves. the grinder hit funny and flew out of my hands, but the trigger was locked on (i know, stupid idea in the first place) and fell right on my hand that was already pinned beneath the pedals so i couldn't move it... so the disk chewed right through my skin into the bone on my pointer finger before i could grab it again, funny thing is it barely bled at all because it burned all the skin shut, so the ER didn't give me s***ches or anything. but from then on i remembered wear gloves when grinding, at least if you hit it you see leather flying before it digs into your hands!

My Bro-In-Law was squatting down grinding on the fender of his '35 Ford P/U when the rubber backing of the grinder blew apart and hit him right square in the nads. The poor guy was laid up in bed for a few days with nuts the size of g****fruit. Of course I had to stop by to cheer him up with a few good jokes, what are brothers in law for?
