Well, sort of tech. A tip really. Lots of people are still running around with cast exhaust manifolds. They eventualy rust, and loose their nice cast finish. Lots of people paint, but it never seems to work that well, and looks bad once rust reapears. So, here's what I do. Go down to the hardware store and get some cast stove polish. It's black, and kind of gooey. It works just like wax. Put it on, and let it haze, then polish off with a clean cloth. It looks nice, it protects well, it's cheap, and it works on rusty stuff if you wire brush it first. It needs to be reapplied occasionally, when you're polishing the chrome or aluminum on the engine, just put another coat on the manifolds at the same time. Here you can see the left side is bare sandblasted, the right has the stove polish applied.
Jeff, Is the stove polish still 'wet' after it hazes? Will it rub off or get on your hands if you touch the manifold after it's been polished? Ed
Burndup- I have no idea how it works on steel. I'd****ume it would work about the same. Ed- It does seem to rub off a little. If you polished enough, it might stop. It might be a graphite based polish, because it feels about the same on your fingers. -Jeff
