After much procrastination, I finally got off my duff and started scanning in my collection of Old Chevy articles. There really isnt too much information out there, as even when these cars were just used cars, they didnt receive much attention from hot rodders due to their wooden bodies and six cylinder engines. The first two articles are from a March 1970 issue of Rod & Custom. One is about using a dropped axle and p***enger car brakes on a 47-54 truck, and the other is about putting later drum brakes on a 30s axle. Im not too sure about the legality or ethics of this, so if someone has a problem, let me know. The way I see it, these are old out of print articles and the information will soon be lost if it isnt shared. If theres much interest, I can scan in about 20 more pages of good information. Link to old Chevy articles Thanks, Ed
bttt Cheers Ed, I have saved them for future reference. I would also be interested in any other Chev related articles. Cheers
i would love to have those e-mailed or pm'd to copy and put into my files, as i have a '30 and '49 chevy and could use the info...thanks, ken
just go to the link in the original post, then click on each picture in turn to bring it up full size, and right click on the big picture and "save image as..." on your computer. I've put some old mag articles on the net, no problem that I can see as far as copyright. It may be illegal in some way, but I think only if you take money for them. Keep'em coming...
I'll post more stuff when I get a chance. There are two more articles that I'd really like to put up on the net -- another on adapting late brakes to early axles and one on identifying pre-55 grilles and tail lights. Ed
My dad and I have been looking for information about brakes for chevy cars 49-54, It involves using the backing plates from a blazer,Tex also had one for them! but we cant find it.
RatBandit - I can't seem to find my Tex Smith Chevy book, nor can I recall the article you're talking about. Was it a disk or drum swap? I tend to ignore the disc stuff! I'm in the middle of scanning more stuff. Check my site for updates. Ed
I dont know! It may have been a "how to" book! It inserts 49 to 54 hubs into a 1980 Tornando disk rotor and use's blazer backing plates.
yeah, that's a disk swap! the 4x4 "backing plates" are actually full circle caliper mounting brackets with a 6 bolt pattern in the center that is easy to adapt to other things.
