Ediited 1/11/07 added Oil Pressure and Temperature gauges.

Seems like a frequently ask thread asks about gauges not working on an old Ford or Merc. The following info is out of the '49 thru '51 Merc/Linclon service manual and earlier models are similar. The gauge senders are not resistance type but rather a bi-metalic strip with a coil of wire wrapped around it and a set of contacts. On the gas gauge one end of the strip is attached to the float arm. On the oil pressure gauge on end is attached to a diaphragm. This measuring system was developed by the King Seely company. You should be able to right click on the next 14 pics and save them to your hard drive for future reference.

And this goes for Ford's too I assume? Post the rest of the stuff on the dash gauges, that would rock if I could make all the stock stuff work.

Yes Ford's too back to the early 40's. All 14 pages out of the manual were loaded.
