i am trying to buy a '50 chevy coupe that has a 1979 3:55 geared Corvette rearend, there is no rear axle housing, instead there are two 'half axles' almost like on front wheel drive cars. (i haven't seen the car yet, only the one picture shown here) my question is: can i easily put an airbag suspension on the car, and where would be the best spot for the bags? obviously the fucked up supersized leaf spring pack would go, it's scary lookin'! and i plan to put a four link on there, but i don't want to mount the airbags on top of the four link (i've seen that done, and that's a fast way to fuck up a four link!) maybe the answer is staring me in the face, but i can't get my head straight right now, so please help me out... thanky. tred.
If you're gonna put a 4 link in there, pull the vette rear and sell it. The vette rear is a great rear end and you you could get some decent money for it. Put yourself another rearend in there and your airbags...
I'm with tredboy on this, the vette rear does not lend itself to an airbag conversion, The extra u-joints in the a xels add alot of complex geometry to a lowered suspension. A solid axel is simpler and more reliable. Also judging from the funky spring, the rest of the vette installation should be viewed with a healthy dose of suspicion
If you do lower the car with independant rear end the tires will change geometry and will handle and look awkward! Go to a solid axle for an easier solution. Mark
that thought crossed my mind, but apparently i told it go away. well it's back now, guess that's the only real solution... ugh. i always do things the hard way. tred.
