I'm in the process of making me a ******* right now, and was unsure of exactly what I was going to do. This answered all my questions and gave me a better plan to work with. First step is to find me a better piece of spring to work with, mine is just too pitted to get a good slapping surface. Great tech.

Great idea, can this be made from regular flat stock, or is there something about the steel from a spring that makes it work better?I'm only asking because i currently have some flat stock but am fresh out of leaf springs(easy enough to get though if it makes a better tool).

I've got a couple of these I've made over the years. Used to make them for others until I got tired of doing it over and over. Now I tell every one to make their own. After this I'll just refer them to this thread.

Leaf spring steel is good steel for not only making *******s but also for making unusual wrenches. I made a hook-style spanner wrench for my now obsolete Storm boring bar. Been using it for the past 25 years.
