being only my second rear end set up I think Ive found a h***le free way to set the buggy spring into the perchs when it looks like its never gonna stretch. Bolt one side of the spring to the perch. Take two large blocks of wood at set them under the perch and spring area. allowing the bolted side to rest on it and the other spring eye to rest on its side. take a rachet strap and secure it around the rear drum or hub. and also around the springs leaf retainer. with a couple hands and some steady moves slowing pull the spring to the perch. tip when setting the spring on the block set it up off center. this will allow the spring eye and perch to line up before hitting. once this is done slide the shackle through the spring and perch and tighten it into place. finally slowly release the rachet strap and your done simple? primative? but it works and for you fellas who've never done this. This will leave room in the thinking hat for other more tech problems
Uh, I think I understand. Use the ratchet strap to pull the spring (as opposed to your shoulders and back). I got the block part worng so if you already read my post disregaurd the part about the block. Not trying to be a smart ***. Still anything to save the shoulders and back is good with me.
draglink, how big of a ratchet strap did you use? will the 1" ones we all use to tie stuff down with work or do you need the big heavy monsters?
we used the small bike hold down rachet straps and the spring was complete. have one person steady the spring as it pulls into place and the brute in the group to work the rachet! took about 5min start to finish
