It seems like alot of stuff is getting saved more now, its just isnt out there, and like a couple of posts (at least 3 threads that i remember) there were discussiond on saving junky bodies, well im one of the stupid and poor ones that has to do just that. Im going to do a quick overview of my 32 coupe i have and fixed up (of course its still not done) a couple of years ago. in the first six pics: 1-junky body back half, i also got doors and a cowl 2-the metal for the subrails 3-the subrails bolted to the frame 4 the subrail at the a pillar 5 the cowl hood firewall and grilled mounted mounted for fitment 6 same but with the doors stay tooned for more posts on this thread
7- attatch back half of body- fit door gap, ----important---- 8 hoop by drip rail for strength 9 end of the rear subrails 10 panel to go from end of subrails to the rear panle below the deck lid 11 patch panel for corner 12 floors
13-heres a pic from the back forward w/o rear floor yet 14 about the same w/ floors 15 side view with out all the lower patches installed yet 16 some of the patches installe
sorry it wasnt a little more in depth but those were all the pics i tool while i fixed it, i think you get the general idea of what was done. i dont think i had $200 in metal, well maybe with the quarter and cowl patches. JEFF
Way to go ***us. That's awesome work. Imagine the feeling of accomplishment the first time you drive that baby down the road!
GOOD STUFF!! I've got a '32 Vicky in the same or worse shape. I've got to get everything paid off and then buy a ch***is before I can get started. With all the '32's being pieced together from bits do we need a list of Humpty Dumpty '32 projects?
Them southerners are spoiled. Their "rusted beyond repair" is our "I found a MINT body." I remember reading about a HAMBer who pieced together a '32 starting with about 4 sq/ft of brushfind body.
ive got parts from 3 different dueces (well more but in the body) i put a new header in it (the old one was gutted, no innards for the w/s hinges) quarter panel wheel well beads (got some wheel wells with the beads from my buddies in canada!) trunk lid (from a buddy in minneapolis, the car is the very nice blue one att bttf buy the pete and jake both (?).) the37kid, i new some one had a vicky on here and couldnt remember who, you ****! jeff
There was a '32 Vicky left quarter and back panel that just sold on eBay today for more than I have in mine so far. My '37 Harley project started with the rear fender 10 years ago, it's a roller in primer now.
As time goes by, there may be more piecing together of obtainable derelict body parts, and not all of them Ford. I've been eyeing a circa '32 - '34 coupe body (unknown make) in a ravine near home and picturing in my mind's eye what it would look like with my extra Deuce Tudor cowl spliced onto the front of it. Maybe it would be an abortion, but, hey, if everything measures out close enough, who knows? A spin on Frankenstein maybe?
Looks really good,....... well now-a-days if you want a real steel Henry made Deuce you either have to have deep pockets, the luck of the Irish, or piece one together. Nice work
I've wanted a deuce Tudor for years, but can't afford one. Piecing one together from s****s, junk, leftovers, whatever, will probably be my only chance at having one. Good on ya!
THATS IMPRESSIVE! I knew the left side was replaced but I didn't know that many doner panels were needed. Looking at the finished product who would know?
My thoughts exactly. Not to say that the work that was done to it to get it back together wasn't very good, because it was, I just don't see how anyone was thinking that was a "junk" body. Looks good.
thats what im doing... although i could be just as happy with a model A but when opportunity knocks, you gotta jump on it! thanks for the post ***us!
I love this thread!!! I know that your coupe came out great, its good to see what it takes. My coupe was just like your's. Nobody thought that anything was good for parts. I havent finished mine as nice as yours but I am having a ball with it. I didnt take any pics, I didnt want proof of failour. Your pics look mine only with a nail head instead of a flathead. jeff
Awesome save. I'm doing the same thing with my 30 Roadster. I have $600 and parts from four different cars but now I have a nice cowl and two perfect swinging doors all put together.
Hell an I'm thinking the bits I got off you are a hand full I'm just begining to start trying to peice them together, got a ch***is last year and some other odd bits, did a door deal with my mate down here so we now have a door for each side each hoping to find a nice complete cowl to really get things going.
Alright, alright! You've made me feel badly......I took the hint!!! Let me ask you, because I don't know jack about body work. I've always heard, "You have to get EVERY bit of rust out. Even the tiniest bit will come back through." Looking at your pics of your floor, for example, where you welded the fresh floor to the **** steel.......I know you ground it off to get good penetration with your welder. BUT how in the world do you get every little bit of rust out of every nook and cranny!!!??? Even my basically new Brookville has some surface rust in places.....since the primer doesn't seal metal..... You're making me think I need to hit the guy up a little harder for that 34.... EDIt: when you're dealing with something as bad as this or the 34 I posted pics of; no floor, bottom 4-5 inches of whole car is rot...... - do you spend the jack and take it to a blaster first? -do what you've have done so well THEN take it to a blaster - not waste time with a blaster -if you break the project down into smaller projects; decklid, each door, etc.......since primer doesn't seal metal...how long to you have before you paint each pc..... I'm probably making this MUCH more difficult than it is.....not to minimize your great fab skills......I guess I have this "get all the rust out" stuck in my head and I can't get past it....
what i would do is fix brace the body, fix the subrails (replace) and do all the patching it needs then blast it. i think what you mean is get rid of all the major rust out, the surface stuff will most likely come off with a good blasting, youd also want to do some sort of rust treatment and pre primer prep to of some sort, youll never get the rust to stop all the way but pretty damn close. here some pics of a 34 tudor i saved. jeff
wow...my hat is off to ya!! you guys on here never cease to amaze me!!!!! ok....that frame for example... you repair your pcs by welding in new......you blast it.....what do you do with all of the pitting left.....fill it with bondo? sand it.....don't worry about it... you've got my attention!
hey man, i was wondering about that project.. glad to see you are still at it considering some of the stuff people are resurectiong on this board, id say my tudor is in pretty good shape heh. ive got some sheetmental bits and pieces from another model A, you are welcome to them for free... if interested, ill shoot some detailed pics when i get back home (2 months). ill send a PM your way. peddro - HAMB'r happy hoppy found it in an insurance inpound yard here in los angeles (a****st other really neat things). its an east coast car i believe, all Ford steel, has original garnish mouldings, and header, doors are acutally in good shape.. looks like someone bounced up onto a curb, spun around and smashed the backside into a tree. no blood anywhere but whoever was driving it had a death grip on the steering wheel becuase it was bent over like a potatoe chip bodywork is going to be primarily done by lowsprings and club mates....afterall we have to live up to our clubs name sake, eh?
Hey, Plan 9, you buildin' that '32 cedan? Why'd I get the idea you'n' hoppy parted that bad boy? Looks like an afternood on an Chief Easyliner, or at the very least a power post and some pots in the shop floor would make a '32 outa that again. Gimmie a holler when ya get goin on it, if ya need a hand. S****ey Devils C.C.
