The judges evidently liked 40/41 ford pickups. This blown gold one took home one of 6 Top Choice awards

And those Tech Students? The Criminal Justice students took care of the parking and the color guard.

while the Culinary students made a delicious BBQ beef sammie with onion rings on it, coke slaw, tater salad and fresh cookies.

They had iced tea and lemonade for refreshments, I asked the girl to mix the two and she looked at me like I was from another planet. I explained that was called an Arnold Palmer, it was her first mixed drink. Mine too!

Besides the 6 Top picks the students from each division at the school picked a car for a trophy. The Criminal Justice kids chose Most Likely to get Ticketed, the Fire students picked best flames, prettiest car by the Cosmetology cl***, the Dental cl*** picked best grille, the Culinary kids chose best donut machine, the Barber school chose best lines…cute idea.

And I got to char with @Taboo56Chevy who drive up in his C10.

Always nice to see my HAMB buddies at these things.

I didn't see you, but I walked down to your car to say hello, but you were no where in sight.
Did you see the kids from Tillamook High School Drag Racing Club? So cool to talk to young guys who are so enthusiastic about racing, and building older cars! They stopped by to ask me questions about my '39 Chev, and invited me to go check out their LS powered '66 Mustang. OT here, but what they're doing at Tillamook High School with a town of 5200 people should be done at every city in the USA! Those kids were great!
And that gold '40 Ford PU was fantastic! Really a nice build. So was the red '33 Willys the guy built himself, and only had paint and interior done.

 

I was really digging that Red 54 Stude with the 348 motor stuffed in it. Was a good show as always. The drive home though was not so great with all the traffic.

 

And Tillamook HS had their own race trailer! How cool was that? That gold 40 PU was tight! The blower made it a tough compe***or. If I had lost to him, it would have been okay by me.

 

My pleasure as always. I know car shows are not everyone's bailiwick but I like talking to people and hearing their stories. Some are builders, some are not, doesn't matter much to me. And the Tech kids were there soaking it up. Long live the car!

Thanks man! I had fun and Mrs BB said it was a great day in her book as well. This was the farthest she has driven her truck according to her. So that is a milestone.

You should go next year, it is a good event. Live music all afternoon and they were pretty good! Excellent chow, indoor restrooms, well directed car show. We pre-registered on line which was simple. Mark your calendar and come out next year! I haven't forgot about lunch. Maybe next Tuesday?

I did not hear that and I doubt I would have missed it. That would be cool. I had a lot of students come by to chat me up on the roadster and pickup. The seemed genuinely interested. There is hope for the hobby. It may lie with this group.

In deed. You know better than the rest the need we have for these schools and the trades. Universities are money makers, kids graduate with loans that they will pay on for eternity. Teach the trades! We need cops, medics, auto techs, hairdressers, hygienists, cooks, firefighters, etc. I witnessed mature, respectful, well-spoken and intelligent students. They people that give you hope about our future.

Billy what the hell are the things that look like leaves on the ground ? Mine are starting to fall also . I like fall but it only means winter is not far away . Thank you for the images

There was an obvious lack of them today. I think there was one that I failed to take pictures of. Perhaps someone else did. It won the flamed trophy.

They are starting to ac***ulate. I went golfing Friday and the ground was littered in them.

Thanks for all the photos! I agree that a technical or vocational school is the best for a running start on life!

 

Not to hijack this thread but all this talk about tech schools/HS auto shop programs reminds me of the Taco Coupe built by auto shop students at Dayton HS in Dayton, OR. It would be really nice if there could be a national event to show case all these programs but the logistics and costs would be prohibitive. But maybe @anthony myrick could load up a bunch of his students in the bus and drive to the event?


When the homecoming senior Princess ASKS to be ******ed in the Taco Coupe—which she helped build, and the homecoming Queen is so excited that she gets to ride in a 32 roadster, you know you’ve done something right. Small town homecoming, Dayton knows how to do it.

I remember the Taco coupe. I went to a four-year school and received a couple of degrees that I never used, what I could have used was someone to teach me how to TIG weld! I have done home mortgage lending for 35 years and I see the wild amount of student loans people have and they don't even work in their field of study. I remember taking bowling as an elective to graduate, that should have been auto painting or engine rebuilding. Seriously? Bowling? I still have the Brunswick Black Beauty from cl***.
