Hey guys hoping I'm posting this properly first time using. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried using citric acid for the inside of a gas tank. I have a Model A that has some rust on the inside of the tank. Since the tank is very small I was thinking this might work if I fill it up and let it sit. Drain and then use baking soda as suggested to neutralize the acid.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Haven't used citric acid on a tank, but have used it several times for other rust removal. I used muriatic acid in a small motorcycle tank once before, rinsed it well, and dried. I then put some oil in tank, and sloshed it around just to prevent rust from starting. (My thoughts on it) Still on the bike.

  3. Another way to make sure it is dry, once the acid cleaning and flushing are done (optional baking soda neutralizer), is to flush with alcohol. Alcohol displaces the water, and will flash dry without any concern about rust.

Would be good for enclosed tank or similar.

I tried it and it works ok but left a crusty layer on the parts. Perhaps th econcentration was too high and the acid collected onto the parts? Took some wire wheeling to remove it all...
