I'm a complete fiend when it comes to old mags and books about cars. Here are some cool old tips from a book called the "Complete Home Workshop Cyclopedia" ©1945.

Was there a big problem with people getting into unlocked cars to listen to the radio? Can't think of any other explanation for the hidden radio kill switch.

    Love the illustrations

Look for some Popular Science magazines from any time from the 1920's to the 1960's--Gus Wilson provided a page or two of tips like those every single issue!

    Look here, for starters:

    http://www.gus-stories.org/
    http://www.arcpress.com/modelgarage/gus.htm

He even helped prepare a race car or two, roundy-round and sports, with his secret tips...a pop culture hero for all time!

I have stacks. I love them!

In fact, this book was published by Popular Science. I'd guess these are out of previous issues.

At the next HAMB event, we need to paint a whole car with the mouth atomizer trick...preferably in metalflake.
After the car is fully painted and the teams of HAMBERS are lying on the ground gasping for breath, another team--HAMB stripers, this time...will stripe the metalflake for hour after hour til the entire car is white...

    DADAism lives!

That was cool - and many are current.

  22. I like the tip about carrying first aid stuff in a box on the parcel deck. I thought my '77 450SE was trick; now I know MB has Popular Science to thank!

I like the idea of locking the parking brake in the on position. My ignition switch works without a key so this may be an easy way to secure the car. If someone takes it I'll just follow the skid marks! :)

I have seen old guys hanging the tennis ball from the roof of the garage to avoid hitting the wall before. Now I know where that came from and why I keep seeing it again and again.
