It's so simple that you'll probably kick yourself if you haven't thought of it already. Use your digital camera to see what's going on in those tight places that your head just won't fit into. The playback screen usually shows enough detail to see what's going on, so it's instant. It's like having eyes in your hand.
An even lower tech way I use sometimes to see what size socket or screwdriver I need, for some out of the way bolt that I can't see is too press my finger on it real hard for 20 seconds or so then look at the indent on my finger... sounds corny but it usually works.... Red X = phillips.
The finger press is an old mechanic's trick And it "usually" won't break when it hits something. Flatman
I frequently use my digi camera for taking pics of stuff I can't see under the car. My car's pretty low and it's often a hassle to get out the jack and stands for something that requires just a yes/no glance. Point the cam in the general direction, and Click. Instant reassurance
I use a mirror. :^D Don't have one of them fancy-smancy newfangled dititals w/preview window. Only digital I have is old & won't take decent pics in medium light much less low-light conditions. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" You braggin' or complainin'?
Buddy o mine used his digicam to even the odds in a bar fight, set the flash off in dude's eyes, followed directly by a fist. He said big asshole dropped like a tree.
Oh my god my girlfriend and I just laughed so hard we both cried after reading that. I'm not saying it's dumb, it's actually a damn good idea, but just the visual I got of someone looking at their finger like that...hope you don't take offense.
