I had decided to use my 40 front axle and bones for the Tudor build up, but by using a traditional axle spring perch set up it would sit too high. After looking at the suicide set ups with the spring perch going horizontal thru the bone behind the axle I got an idea on a set of brackets to hang the spring on with out drilling thru the bones. Here are some photos to look at:

The set up gives me a 106" wheelbase on a stock A frame, and lowers the front end 4 to 5" without the expense of a drop axle. I gave it the old 270lb bounce test and she held just great. I will cleanup the welds and finish weld when I tear her apart for cleanup and paint. Works well!

That's a sharp idea. And it gives me a slightly different idea how to do mine.
    Which spring did you use?
Looks like a Posies. One of the limited edition Posies Patina Series(tm). [IMG]

You might have to preheat the end of the 'bone to get proper penetration.

ummmm, doesn't the axle hit the frame horns when the spring is compressed?

The spring is a 34.5" revesed eye flattened arch from the speedway catalogue to give me some less height in the front. You could have one made at your local spring shop. If you need I will send the dimensions of the main leaf.

Mike - lets do it the first weekend on February and yea so its a cheater suicide. I wanted to use the stock front crossmember so go fix yer compressor and let get to cutting up the subframe!

Mr. Gasser - there is about 2" of clearance from the horns to the axle so she has plenty of clearance.

Cool! I love it when guys break from the norm and go redesign an idea and make it themselves.

I hate it when guys just go buy all that***** from a shop, bolt it together, and say "hey, look at this car 'I' built!"

Here's a bracket I knocked up myself, rear end of my Morris.

Looks good but you said it has two inches between the frame and the axle what about after the engine is set in it? that will probably lower it 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 depends on engine. Just something you might want to think about.

It had 2" after I stood on it for some flex. I go about 270 so about half of the weight of the engine . Plus it is a low arch spring.

I've also been trying to figure out a tactful way of saying the same thing since yesterday...Tman (I think) and I recommend you get a certified or at least good welder finish welding them or they really might live up to the suicide****le.
Design looks really spiffy, and original too if that's possible! [IMG]

  16. But to add, I think those brackets rock!!!! I wish Ida thunk of that when I did mine. [IMG]

Being the suicideaxle shop. I would have to say that I like the bracket but unless it's tig welded I would not run it. I think the bolt through the bone setup gives you a lil movement through the bone ya know. this setup would have to be welded very strong. I think the tinsle strength on the grade 12 bolt is like 150,000 pounds a lil more than a car weighs. I take the grade twelve 1/2 inch bolt and have it tig welded to the shackle mount. man this is the basis of the whole suicide setup. I weld alot but I sure don't trust a regular mig weld with my suicide setup, but the homeboys the clarks have been rollin over 6000 miles on the mig welded wishbone shackle mounts. over some very nasty roads. I think he may have enough room with the spring those roadster shop chasis like cleen rock ones only has about an inch and a half of travel and they say there is no bottoming out. the rear mount pictured looks hella tough. Happy suicideaxle roddin drew
