There are a ton of techies/car guys on this board. I figured since its freaking cold out i would give a quick Tech post on Tech.. thats computer tech. There is no actual meat of this post just where to find stuff. For all of you guys that want pics of their car "pho-chopped" or painted different colors, or lowered, it takes a ton of time working with an application to get to the point where you can do it easily. I remember seeing a post recently on how to do it.. it was great. Adobe PhotoShop (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/main.html) is a common tool. Its pricy.. at $649 I use GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/).. which works well for me as i use linux as my OS and GNOME as my desktop. The cool part is GIMP also runs on windows (http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/ ). I use it on windows and linux and the best part of it all.. its FREE. You can do many of the things you do with photoshop on gimp, not all, but everything you need to chop modify the coupe in your garage from the warmth of your computer nook. best of all, you can download it.. install it and not pay a cent.. you can practice practice practice with it. Its perfect for the average joe to use. Thats the extent of my meager tech this week.
Yeah, someone told me I could download Photoshop from the net. Hah. Then I saw he price. Here in the UK it's like 400 pounds! So, my wife bought a bootleg copy off a friend for about $8 I don't really condone that sort of thing 'cos I'm a honest law abiding son of a b.
the trick to getting photoshop.....(and legal too) is to find someones kid that is going to college, and make them buy it for you ( http://www.edu.com ). Because I'm a student I got the new Adobe Creative Suite.....which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Go Live, ImageReady, and Acrobat...for like $375 (it normally runs at about $1500).....just a thought
Looks like you have to be a computer geek to be able to down load it. I'd like to try it but it's too complicated for me.
I use photodeluxe and am able to do almost everything that others can do with photoshop. I guess it's because I've used it so much, I know how to trick the program into doing what I want it to. The best part is it was free with an old computer. I tried to download gimp too, but I had no idea how from that website.
trick to downloading is this.... go here (http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/stable.html ) download the 3 files... these are the application, the graphics libraries and the lwz thing to use .gif files. These will automagically install the GIMP program for you. save them all in the same spot on your pc. double click the GTK+ file first... let it install with the defaults. after thats all done... do the GIMP file next then after you are done with that...install the LZW files usually the default settings for everything are fine on a standard windows box. I usually run on windows 2000.
MY photoshop consists of a pic- a pair of scissors -and a roll of scotch tape....... [until recently I was the only one who could see it]!
photoshop is the best and most powerful program for photo editing, period......nothing else comes close, you get what you pay for! Ive never used gimp but Im sure photoshop has it beat
