Tis the season to share, and I don't know if it has been discussed before so here it goes. Tin foil works excellent for keeping paint off things while you spray. You can wrap it around what not and it stays put. No taping or newspaper bs. Just wrap the tin foil around and squeeze and presto, "it's masked". I like this best in engine compartments. Try it you will like it.
I'd do it, but the sound tinfoil makes causes this weird fluttering thud in my eardrums that if experienced more than a few seconds sends me into hulk out mode where I must stop and destroy everything in sight without care for my own physical wellbeing or that of the unfortunate bystanders. Kind of like Master Blaster and the dog whistle in Beyond Thunderdome. Thanks for the tip, but I'll stick to nice, quiet, reliable masking tape and paper - for safety reasons you understand.
check this out. go buy a roll of "el cheapo" tin foil. pull out about 2 feet ofit, and fold it back over itself. repeat this until the entire roll is now a square 10-12 layers thick. it ain't gotta be perfect. congrats. you now have a welding blanket /torch cutting shield that is disposable, reusable, can be formed to fit a weird spot, and it comes in particularly handy on working on cars where you have to drill holes over carpet, cause it's a formable catch pan, too. it can also be used as an exhaust heat shield in a pinch...but it's not very long life in that application...no more than 2-3 years max. Merry Christmas!
detailers use the foil trick and using the foil for heat shield works great. i use it to protect wiring on the food proccessing when removing bearings with heat.
You can wrap it around your head to keep major league baseball from reading your thoughts. Seen it on Simpsons
It's also good for repairing those stubborn rust holes, just wad into a ball fill with bondo and viola instant repair...... I find a lot of people thought so.
doesnt this **** work good to polish chrome and that would be polish not like the costco hot dogs or the country
If you have small cracks or light peeling you rub it into the part and it fills it in making it look pretty for a little while atleast. I did this on my headlight rings.
Now I know how to keep my flux core weld splatter to a minimum, never realized how useful tin foil was...
Break the heads off of a bunch of Farmers matches and wrap them in tinfoil. Hit it with a hammer, *****in smoke bomb trick I learned in 5th grade. The teachers all hated me.( I look back now and I bet they laughed . ****in mean kid....)
That's exactly what I was doing this morning. Instead of the engine compartment, I was at the *** end. I am getting ready to make a new trunk floor, and used foil to wrap wiring, cables, shocks, etc. getting ready for paint. This always saves a lot of time when masking..............Woody
Tinfoil also helps prevent your cat from exploding, if you accidentally put it in the microwave during a bad acid trip.
This has nothing to do with rodding, but FWIW - here goes..... My grandmother was an Arkansas hillbilly, born in 1898, married at 16, widowed in 1941, and lived to the ripe old age of 92. So one afternoon (in her late 80's) I asked her this question - "You've seen the whole modern world bring forth all these neat inventions in the course of your life - from cars, to telephones, radio & TV, medical sciences, space travel, microwaves - the gamut. What one thing has changed your life the most?" She sat and thought for at least 5 minutes, and finally said, "I don't know how I ever got along without tinfoil". First I thought it was hilarious, but then I realized she used everyday for cooking & other household stuff, on the windows, the radio antennas, etc. All that other stuff was great, but it's the little stuff that keeps your life going.
Your right though, when the 50 Burb was in the paint booth, I wrapped up what underdash wiring I had installed with the foil. Instant masking, instant removal. No paint on wires!
tinfoils just the new flat black! give me ziplock baby! great idea for tfoil! woulda never thought of that~!
MY dad knew a guy who was a welder and kept a two pieces of tin foil in his wallet that he had welded together. When people would ask about the quality of his work, he'd pull out the foil.... nuff said..
My Mom wraps everything in tin-foil. My sister dropped by with some leftovers from Mom - big ol' hunk of ******-red prime rib wrapped in tin-foil dripping au jus all over the damn place... Lose the top to the milk? (it happens) Tin Foil! Want to freeze some pork chops? Wrap 'em in tin-foil! By a 55lb hunk of colby at Sam's club? Wrap 'er in tin-foil! Honestly, it works better for garage duty than kitchen duty. The only thing I found it good for was keeping the grill clean and covering a pan of lasagna. If you want a true double threat, use some of that Glad Press and Seal. I keep a roll in the garage and the kitchen. Works well for any task not involving fire and it'll keep your 55lb chunk of colby fresh.
You can use it to wrap parts that need to cool down slowly after welding, cast iron pieces etc. Also makes weird masks if you double it up and push it on yours or your friends faces.
Take some tin foil lay it on the intake manifold and the valve covers. then take two eggs and crack em on one side and some corned beef hash on the other side then wrap. By the time you get to work in the morning you have a great breakfast. You can also put a can of soup down near the headers if your realy hungry.
