That's what I'm talking about, THANKS!

My eyeballometer S.W.A.G. estimate from pictures was plus/minus .750".

    Hey! Maybe I don't need trifocals...yet...

I've got an '89 S-10 T-5. I think I used the wrong thread bolts for the trans. mount. Can anyone tell me what the proper bolts are?

    Thanks, Dave

Not sure of the exact Metric pitch but they are Metric threads.

That's what I was afraid of, and not what I used. I'll need to see if I can clean up the threads once I know what they should be.

Here's how I resolved the missing throw out bearing return spring mount on my Speedway adapter. First, I drilled a 3/32" hole at an angle from the trans. side, then drilled another intersecting 1/8" vertical hole. I was pretty nervous about making a mistake, but it looks like it will work. 20180528_173221.jpg 20180528_173254.jpg 20180528_173405.jpg

Of course down under we have the Japanese curse of what I call the “bastard thread” they live in a dark corner of my shop under the bench and only come out when desperate. All my builds are UNC or UNF.

Anybody know the size/thread pitch of the two bolts that secure the mount to the trans?

  11. A friend of mine recently used a T5 tailshaft from a Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo, he says it puts the shifter in between a Camaro and an S-10.

  12. I am mixing parts, does anyone know if I can swap a Mustang input shaft in a Camaro box to get the proper length for my Stude adaptation?

As long as the gears on the input shafts are the same tooth count, you are good. I’ve even successfully put non-world class input shafts in a world class box. You just need to use the synchro that goes with the input shaft. And obviously adjust end play properly.

  14. I am putting together my Studebaker conversion, Bought adapter plate, pilot bearing, bearing retainer and modified TO bearing from Phil Harris at Fairborne Stuebaker. Did a quick mock up and it looks like it will all line up.
I bought a 93 Mustang T5 on the HAMB and had it delivered to Ryno during the HAMB drags, just need to go get it. I used my Camaro T5 to mock it up, but the input shaft won't work.

I bought the same adapter kit for the same purpose but haven't got that far on my Stude yet (Projectus Interruptus). Glad to hear it a fits correctly. Tell me more about that speedo gear location mod please.

  16. I picked up a WC S-10 trans just for the tail housing but it was electric spedo. I found on here that Kato Kings was doing conversions so I contacted him for the work. He moves the hole so you can use the gear instead of the reluctor. He also made a split collar that clamps onto the transmission shaft to mount the driven gear. He supplied me with the bullet, clamp, and mounting hardware, and did the calculation for the green gear so my spedo will read correct. Easy to work with and got it done faster than he quoted. He is on my recommended list.

You wouldn't happen to have an extra full flow Stude 289 block laying around would you??

Thanks for the trans info ...appreciate that.

Not only do I not have 'extra' full flow block laying around, I don't have any....so if you find one, ask if she has a sister! :D

Been reading through and not sure if i found what i was looking for. i was googling T5's nv3500's..WC/NWC ..etc and came across this page , very informative 1st post on this thread
..so my question/choices/dilemma ..i have an '00 S-10 "4X4" with a 5spd and a 5.7 swapped in ..modded and EFI it's about 400 hp . only thing i ever broke was my rear end once a few yrs ago .i have had it 7 yrs , i use it for my pest control/exterminating business .it has the original 5 spd that was on the 4.3 it started life with in '00 .Is it a WC T5?

Last Fall , the last day i drove it my shifter got sloppy , but still holds gears strong .Took it to a mechanic this spring assuming a bushing or something went out in the "Hurst" shifter but i was informed it's my syncros .The shifter pretty much spins in circles , i drove it back from the mechanic ,about 15 miles , going from 1st to 5th when i could find the gear , luckily it has enough power to do it..lol ..but i didnt get it fixed and i quickly bought a ford ranger for the season which is ending this month .Well Ranger started misfiring and we found out the timing chain is peacing out , at least it waited till now ..sooo i'm back to wanting to fix my s-10 .

.Can JUST the syncros be replaced?.if not and i decide to go to a local junk yard for a used trans or buy a remanned one what trans is in my 4X4 '00 S-10 and are there better options that would bolt right up?..i mean i see people saying they arent strong but mine has been a beast and holds a lot of power for the 7 hard seasons i've had it..it also has a spray rig with a 50 gallon stainless steel tank on it

..worst part, the douchey mechanic replaced my clutch and helio coiled a spark plug and replaced all plugs and wires and tuned it up for 1300.00 and said "oh theres no bushing in there , you need a new trans" and gave it back to me like that ..like didnt bother to call and say hey , your trans is shot you still want a clutch?..or maybe while it's still apart asking if i wanted him to put a used trans in it?..lol .

.thanks for any help and sorry for the long winded post ..bored on a sunday , watching football and looking on ebay and CL for transmissions and wanted to see what i should be looking for ..type,year range ,etc..

I believe the World class that is most popular was ended in '97 or so.

If the trans in your truck is original when built, or one exactly like it, I believe you should be able to take your VIN to a Chevy dealer parts department and they can download a 'build sheet' with all the OEM components installed and answer your question about the trans type.

It sounds to me like more of a linkage problem than failed synchronizers in your transmission. I would get a second opinion, especially since you don't seem to have a lot of confidence in your mechanic.

..TY!.. yeah , i'm thinking it seems weird..if i have enough time in the day i can eventually find gears..but my Hurst Shifter is so sloppy..i can spin it in circles and have to slam it into gears..like it feels like i'm going to break the shifter in half trying to get it into a gear...once in gear it's holds it and makes me smile remembering driving it..lol

my poor truck..i'm glad i found this page ..this mechanic seems like an idiot.. i found him last yr when my aluminum radiator lost its hold down and kissed my crank and put a hole in it and i literally coasted into this mechanics parking lot to see why it was making a noise and saw all the coolant ..so it was a like , hey , while i'm here kinda a thing..so when it came time to do the work this spring , my regular mechanic we trust didnt wanna do clutch on my swapped s-10 for some reason (though it's not different than a 4.3 clutch replace)..anyways , i had this guy do it and he gave it back still broken with a new clutch,plugs,wires,cap/rotor ..lol..huh

It is not a T5, at all.

    It's a NV3500.

You can confirm this for yourself.

Does it, or does it not, have a removable bellhousing?

It has a mechanical speedo drive...the actual I’d tag is missing but it does have a few stamped numbers.

I’d guess 87 or 88 based on the 87 above Borg Warner. At least you know that was when those parts of the cases were made.

Certainly Mustang. They are all World Class.

If there is not a metal tag under one of the bolt that hold on the tail housing, short of pulling the tail housing, shifter, and top cover, and then counting teeth on gears, there is no way to ID it exactly.

The casting numbers on the aluminum parts are the same, regardless of ratios. Outside of Ford-pattern applications, they don't even necessarily indicate World Class or Non-World Class.

Whatever it came from originally, the only variance in that era was ratio, in terms of function, on the V8 transmissions.

Check it inside, and run it.
