    Here's how I'm doing mine.
I'm using a 35 Banjo wheel and the back of the wheel is about 2 inches in diameter.
Using Ian's idea with a little of my own ingenuity, here's the beginnings of my steering column.
    It's a piece of 1 1/2 dia exhaust tubing.
I had a muffler put on my truck the other day and the muffler guy swaged it up for me so that it matches the diameter of the back of the steering wheel.

I still have to get some bearings to go in the top and bottom.
Probably will have to turn some bushings to fit the tubing with a bearing pressed into it.

Cool idea Ian !! I'm gona use it in a modified version on my column. If it works I'll properly have a horn and indicator (signal for the Americans?) lever still on the column but with out the bulkiness.
    It'll be a hybrid '46 Chev car/ '78 Holden/ '59 Dodge/scratch built thingy!! :D:D

Original poster hasn't been on here for almost a year.

Maybe someone in Riverside (or vicinity) California knows him and could ask him to repost the pix.

  9. Yea i figured this was pretty dead just bummed photos disappear depending how folks uploaded them. I think i've got the general idea and found some flange bearings https://www.mcmaster.com/23775T7/ which i could use with 1.5" exhaust tubing

I, for one, would greatly appreciate seeing/saving the original photos. I'll be needing a column for my 31 Model A sometime in the (somewhat) near future.

You could PM " rockable " on here. He did a post on building a steering column on here back in 2012. The pictures are there in the post but they are are small, but he may still have them and perhaps could post them up in full size.
