Around here you can still get hold of big old wood stoves like Blaze Kings that kick out a hell of a lot of heat for the price of the kit to do the barrel stove. I have a torpedo heater that I heat the tent I put up around what I am working on but you end up smelling like diesel smoke from that.

    Great article.

I have 2 small barrels made from thick wall metal. I have been wanting to make one.

I did check with my home owners ins. With State Farm no through wall exhaust pipe is permited. I was told a few years back there was a rash of garage fires, and all had through wall piping that collected debri in the horizontal section. My house wood burner is stright up throught the roof and inspected.

Those kits do a great job. What it boils down to is checking with your home-owner's insurance to see if it's a deal-breaker.

I'd like to get one, but just don't have the space to sacrifice.

    Hey,

I have an old fuel tank that I would like to use as a barrel stove.

The interesting thing about this tank is that the bottom is flat; it's round on the top and flat on the bottom.

I think Im going to put the flat side up so i can set stuff on it but I was wondering about what your thoughts may be.
