Well, I don't have any one thing worthy of contribution right now...how about a running post to add those little handy things that we know and use... yeah, we've done these before, but it's been a while. Here's one for starters...know how the air hose or extension cord always gets hung under the edge of your tire? Take 4 old brake shoes, wedge one under the outside corner of each tire...no more hanging.
how about this one...when the girl is calling to hurry up so "we" can go to the store, TURN THE RADIO UP AND KEEP WORKING "oh I couldn't here you!"
Headlights. I was looking for some nice headlights on my '34 Roadster project. I don't like the small ones often seen on these cars. The price on the aftermarked ones is high. After a while i found a pair on an wrecked timber machine! Nice rounded bottom and standard 7" bulb. I paid the owner 10$. Generally it's a good tips to walk around on the wreckingyard just to watch and get some ideas. On a trip like that I came across new windowslide-rubber on a wrecked Jeep Cherokee whitch fitted perfectly on the '34. (I rebulid the doors to accept sidewindows.)I also paid nearly nothing for two nearly new but dented sidedoors with central lock and power windows.
Go to commercial auctions like they have when grocery stores or restaurants call it quits. You'll find heavy duty carts and trolleys, steel shelves and stainless counters. I bought 2 trailer loads of stuff at a local one for $32. I got dozens of shelves (great source for sheet metal too), 3 carts suitable to move drivetrains around on, 18 flourescent light fixtures with tubes and protective sleeves, 2 desks and cases of cleaning supplies. I only bid on stuff which no one else had shown an interest. Most folks that go to these things are interested in the big stuff like mixers, scales, coolers and specialty fixtures.
A**** all these good ideas, we must not forget an important issue: The line between a hotrodder and a junkyard-king is thin! I know too many rodders who never will manage to fulfill their projects because all the "nice to have things" or other project cars they buy at the same time!
Staleg, Those are the kinds of guys that just need someone to help them work on something and get them excited about ONE project. They have the resources right there to customize anything or to trade what they have for either a favor on their main project or a part that they need. I would hang out with that guy and introduce him to some of your other hot-rod friends. When they see his project they can stroke his ego and motivate him to focus. Hell volunteer to help him work on ****, and he can return the favor to you. Two guys work faster and get more done. Besides he might just give you some good deals. Is this tech?? LOL.
