To Paul's point on the technical issue. Here's what happened:

Last week, a window opened to upgrade garagejournal.com from VB to Xenforo and I jumped on it. I wasn't thinking about tech week and the work or technical aspects of it. Thank god Paul jumped in or this would have really gone to hell...

In any case, years ago I decided to share the DB the polls use between garagejournal.com and jalopyjournal.com. This turned out to be a stupid decision, but I wouldn't realize this until years down the road.

See, when garagejournal.com went down for the upgrade the DB lost a point of reference and starting asking all kinds of questions. I had failed to remember this shared environment and wasn't there to answer these questions. Full transparency here - we might have lost some votes. It's impossible for me to know how many, but I don't think it was a ton as I was able to log into both DBs and put together these numbers:

Still not great... but certainly better than it looked. And I am 100% confident that our winner is legitimate.

Congrats fellas... and sorry I dropped the ball so badly on this one. We will get on a schedule and make this thing sing. Promise.

Thanks for bringing Tech Week back! It was fun and cool to get to learn from some of the talented folks here. I’m just thankful I have friends with a louver press, because I’m not sure I have the patience to do it @the-rodster way. :D Congrats on the win!

  4. General statement as to why I arrived here, years ago ( 2nd account, I'll add :eek::) )

TECH' WEEK & build threads. --> Making impossible available for home interpretation.

The magic curtain parted, for all to see.

Not a criticism, but THAT is what made this place great .. for me.

I really appreciate seeing tech' weeks return. As I also appreciate those that share such detail for those like me. Your mileage may vary.

Carry on & thank you, again. All.

Thanks for bringing Tech Week back. There is so much knowledge and skill out there in HAMBland that we don't get to learn about any other way. Tech Week helps keep this thing we love alive.

We should all get together and figure out a schedule... Maybe once a quarter or twice a year or?

Point is, it would be rad if we just had set dates... Or maybe not? Maybe we just have a set number?

I thought the entries were great. I'd love to see Tech Week at least biannual, if not quarterly. I remember when the board was closed during Tech Week for tech-only threads and I thought that was pretty cool....just seemed to refocus things a little. Regardless of what you decide, thanks for doing it. And congrats to @the-rodster...what an awesome display of madness and determination!

Yeah... I like the idea of going back to a single week... no other threads allowed. A lot of work, but a lot of fun too...

Great grouping of tech info posted up and congrats to @the-rodster - skills for sure and a bunch more patience than I have!

Doing these more frequently is great and hope this sparks people to post more. I know it did for me as this was my first technical in-depth piece. Hope to contribute more.

  15. I was amazed to see my small contribution received the votes it did, but my contribution paled in comparison to the excellent threads posted by my fellow members, I my mind the voting could have gone to several different members who posted some of the best tech I have seen in years.

Congratulations go out to Rich, You knocked it out of the park my friend. HRP

While I like the tech post, I don’t think shutting down all other posts fir a week, is a good idea. But I’m relatively new, so.... also like the three bears.. twice a year may not be often enough, four times a year may be too often...... so how about three times a year, every four months? Just my thoughts.........

    Yes, please. Twice per year.

Is there already a Tech Week thread archive? That would be an awesome resource.

I would also thank andcongratulate the others as it's really all good info and a heck of a lot of work to drum these Threads together having participated before.

I apologize for missing most of the articles shared as I was tuned out with life......:)...but I will make a point of visiting these one by one Liken' them up and learning at the same time...;)

If it is possible, it would be nice to have all the tech week entries in a section to themselves. I know I missed some of them and didn’t see them until the voting started. As fast as threads move down from the first page, it’s easy to miss some.

Hit me up with a PM. I've got my contribution to the prize pot to send your way.

  24. My vote would be for set dates. Just like striving to get ready for a car show, set dates for tech weeks would give a time frame for guys to strive towards. Either way though, I'd excited to see more tech-weeks on the horizon.

Thanks for bringing it back. I would vote for quarterly. I think you should definitely do it more often than annually.
