Actually... I love digg.com and use it quite frequently. I'm not as big on fark.com, but still check it out every now and then. Both are very successful and valuable sites. They don't take a site down on purpose. It's natural... As for the new registers... I went through all of them and deleted the accounts that were obviously made in jest... Kept the rest... It's all good folks... I'm more concerned about the guy that has such a problem with me... The anonymity thing just eats at me. I want to atleast see if I can make right.
Don't let him get to you. He obviously has never met you or his thoughts would be different. Thanks SilentMind for clearing some of this up for me....and for some others I'm sure.
Yeah, I tried but couldnt find anything about the guy other than the obvious "SF, CA" reference. Shame, usually i can digg up something.
not really for fun, but since there are so many people reading these sites and everyone is trying to go to the link sight that is written about, most servers can't handle it so on fark they call it farked. Same thing with slashdot they say the site wast /.'ed
Ryan, seriously, I wouldn't sweat it if I was you. For one thing, the bigger the HAMB gets, the more nitpicky squabbly hens-in-the-barnyard type crap you will be the subject of. Sometimes people just have to be whiney and you being the most visible person to whine about are going to catch it. Especially from people you had to toss for whatever reason. Think of yourself as being like a dad. Your kids don't always have to like what you do, but you are the dad, dammit, and you will do what's best for the family.
the 20k of us wouldn't even dent them... probably the three worst sites to get listed on that has the effect are Slashdot, Fark, and Digg..
they're basically 'news' aggregators, that's what i use 'em for, not the forums. i think mud's name usually comes up when there's a 'whatever happened to' post, but not as much as germ's...
To give you an analogy, lets say the HAMB is a 20ton hydralic jack (amount of traffic it can handle at once), at any given time, 10tons of HAMbers ;-) are on the jack (that leaves enough overhead for varying amounts of people visiting the site normally), which leaves 10 tons of extra capacity for the casual observer to stand here and look around. To contrast, Fark is a 500ton jack, with 400 tons of Farkers on at any given time. Somebody posts a link to something interesting on the HAMB jack, and 300 tons of curious Farkers start trickling over to take a look. The HAMB jack is quickly overloaded and sinks down until enough people jump off and allows the HAMB jack the ability to hold some more again. Until less than 20 tons of HAMBers and/or Farkers are on the jack, nobody else is coming on. The problem is, with 300 tons of Fark, and only 20 Tons of HAMb it is going to be a while until all 300 interested tons of Fark have tried to jump over for a look-see. Alex.
