I know people (rightfully) hate questions that have been asked before, but I've searched and searched and maybe I'm not using the right words but I'm not finding the answer to this one. I'm using an old five window cowl that someone halfway converted to a roadster many years ago (gold colored welds). The A pillars are messed up and I'm needing to repair them; I'm ***uming the five window's were wider and that's why someone cut them. But, because they are messed up, I'm not really sure how deep to install my hinges. I don't want them to stick out goofy far. Will post pics down below. My question: Would anyone be willing to go measure from the body to center of the top hinges hole on a 32 roadster? Just a ballpark would make me feel more easy. Right now I'm guessing based on pictures and where it would seem to work with the door (Brookville). The other thing I've been trying to find, since I'm going to need to weld it up, is a picture of the A pillar, looking towards the back of the car so I can see how I need to repair mine. And if I'm going to make a Christmas wish list, a measurement of how high to put the holes for the check strap. There is a write-up of my project posted on my account. Nothing really new, but I think it's going to be awesome for me to own. Thanks for any help someone might be able to give! Isaiah
Derek at Coldstream Rod Shop answered my question about the hinge depths, but I thought I'd post them here in case anyone else ever needs the same info. Also, Derek has been unbelievably helpful between his personal ***istance, and his online videos. Highly recommend.
@ekimneirbo you're right, I've got the doors mocked and it sort of became clear. Still, there was some strangeness with the five-window cowl (the hole for the bottom hinge is in a different location... and obviously, the top) and I was thankful for Derek's measurements. @carcruse I'm good, but thank you. The question kind of resolved itself. I haven't drilled and tapped them yet, but shortly. For such a junkyard cowl, I'm actually pretty happy with the gap line so far... hopefully it's not too different after I drill and tap.
@ekimneirbo thanks for the great ideas! I was on some of that path, but you gave me another idea. Because I bought the steel hinges, I could tack weld them in place... at least the cowl side. I think I'll have them hung soon.
