how do I get the BEL-AIR chrome wording off the side of my '53 Chev 2-door hardtop w/o destroying it, or taking apart interior ? please text: 602-617-3559 thanks
They were installed with barrel clips.....so you should be able to pry the script off with a plastic tool. Might want to put painters tape on the finish.
If yuo’re albe to raed tihs, you might have Typoglycemia.....which of course, would make you a master at word jumbles.
I would use a horoscope or similar device to SEE what's inside the panel , who knows what may have been used I've the years . Plus that old die cast is very brittle , use a lot of caution !
That particular trim is hard enough to get out in one piece when you have the Barrel clips or push on clips off.
i use a sheetrock taping knife long enough to tuck under length of emblem and pry / rock back and forth evenly gently on all pins ...
Were barrel clips commonly used in original production on 1950s vehicles? I think of them as coming along much later as a "field fix" type of item for body shops to more easily re-attach nameplates and moldings and such without having to access the back side of the panel. Seems like a lot of 60s and 70s vehicles still used stamped steel nuts to attach these bits from the factory.
Two work better in my experience. One on each side so you can maintain a 'straight' pull, you'll be less likely to break off the fragile pins that way. Slow and easy does it....
Now you fellow experts can laugh all you want, but as a former dental lab tech in the Military, we had an amazing array of instruments to pilfer from supply, that did all kinds of things, that were helpful in a situation, that has been described here by @verde742 Go to any dental supply house and purchase two Woodson #1 instruments. By having two of them, you can easily work the rounded edge of each one opposing each, other under the script, and gently use them as a baby pry bar, to gently lift the script out of the barrel clip. They are made out of high quality stainless steel, and you will find that these tools are well made. They come in handy for a lot of other uses that haven't presented themselves to you yet ! Pretty handy for scraping corrosion off of the contact points inside of distributor caps as well. Your welcome from Dennis.
Sounds like the scrip is on the body not the fender is why he can't access the back wthout removeing the interior.
Is there somewhere on the body where a horoscope/ endoscope camera wouldn't fit ? I can't think of anywhere ..

Like ClayMart said, unless you're a Virgo concerned that the moon rising in Leo will affect your ability to download a dictionary, you'll want to use a BORESCOPE, not a horoscope, to look into the small spaced of that fender.
You'd likely get more responses if you changed your title to state what kind of technical advice you needed.
