    It may not be the right way of doing this, and not even the only way.
    And its probably not even so technical

    It's the way we did it.
    And the Flathead will take some punishment...

    And its a 59AB engine by the way.

    You certainly got the job done and you're right there are different techniques.

    I don't even bother touching the horse shoe clips. With non-mushroom valves, all you need to do is compress the valve springs, remove the keepers, and pull just the valves up and out. With mushroom valves, you can cut the stems with a small cut-off wheel. Then spray the valves guides with penetrating oil and drive them down into the valley with a brass drift or a large socket wrench.
