This one is mine, found it at an auction cut down to a trailer. Axle was Chevy/GMC 1/2 ton 6 lig. 1952 telco service bed I U 76 on data plate. Required a lot of work, including fabricating a new roof. Went on an off-topic truck. Served me well, it has toured 37 states.
I recently found a telephone bed and came across this thread. It’s looks to all original it is a Highway trailer co. Brand in pretty good shape for a rebuild project
I found a 1957 Highway trailer co telephone bed is ther much interest in these I would say it’s 80 percent there to my knowledge
i bought this last fall with the intention of putting it on my 40 chevy truck. anybody have an idea what these weigh?
I know this is an old thread, but its a good one, and one that I can really relate to! When I got out of the Army back in 75, I got rid of my pain in the ass 59 M.G.A. roadster, and I bought this cool 56 I.H.C. S-110, retired Bell Telephone line service truck, from my Dads Wrecking yard for $100.00, and I wish I had never gotten rid of it back in 77. It literally was one of the best vehicles I have ever owned, for a variety of reasons. It was easy to work on, and it had a flat floor board. The cab inside was in all original Bell telephone colors and was in great condition. My dad convinced me to get the cutting torch after all of the racks in the back of it, so that I could haul stuff that would fit in that area. Which I did, no regrets there. (Sorry about that to all of the collectors of these trucks) I also had a small camper top, made for it, that wasn't any higher than the top of the cab, so that I had a place to crash out and be out of the weather if I needed a place to sleep for the night, and that came in very handy more than once, sorry no pictures of that. The truck bed was made by Highway MFG. So I am tuned into all of the previous information that has been listed in this thread. Here is a few shots of my old truck when I had just gotten out of the Army back in 75, and was growing my hair out and returning to my hippy status, after having short hair in the Army. Funny thing now at 71, my hair is shorter than it was in the Army, just easier to to take care of at this age. The black 56 I.H.C. S-110 phone truck is a picture from the internet, its not mine. At this stage of the game, I am going to have my friend dig out one of his older 56 I.H.C. S-110 trucks, and we are going to use the body, and modify a newer frame with a late model engine with AC and we are going to fabricate a new "HIGHWAY M.F.G." style truck bed like the one you see on my old truck. No use trying to find one of those beds, they are mostly rotted out, cheaper and easier to build a new one, so that I can have another one of these cool rigs that doesn't break the wallet, and it doesn't have to be a show piece either, just practical fun industrial, cruiser, that doesn't have to be babied. Thanks from Dennis.
