Nah...I dont like it. I think you should start all over again ;)

I dont usually like the look of cut down doors either, but Im actually kind of digging it on your car. I took the photoshop the other guy did and raised the line up a little and maybe thats what was bugging everyone. Its cut down a little less than you had shown with the tape

  5. I don't care for cut down doors either, but the set up OLLIN did looks tits. Flows nice, and just a hint of drop. Very subtle.-MIKE:cool:

    hmmmmm,,,,,i like that,,,,,,,,
very subtle,,,i like the way that flows,,,,
if i do that, it will allow me to weld the doors solid,,and add to the overall smooth, flowing effect,,,,,,,part of the reason the deck lid will not open,,,FLOW,,,FLUIDITY...the more i look at that the more i like it,,its gonna sit low,,so getting in/out wouldnt be a problem,,,,,hmmmmmmmmm

Looks sweet, I like the cut down door idea, they way OLLIN did it looks sweet.

Oh! Just a question...Do you ever work on the other side? just wonderin' the passengers side seems to get the most photo attention. lol

I like the '57 Windsheild too, I think it's cooler than your bubble top idea.

  11. I've been watching this thread not only because of your great level of skill, but also the fact that you are open to suggestion. I haven't mentioned it before, but now that you are considering welding the doors shut, that leaves you open to placing the cockpit anywhere you like. Maybe the cab forward look is what you are after, if so, then great. I just think it might flow better with a bit more hood and a little less rear deck, not criticizing, just trying to help.

  12. Welded doors - hmmmm..... yes but no. Smooth - yes, but it always makes me think of some cheapo glassfibre kit car without them. Looks like you couldn´t be bothered to do it right, if you know what I mean.

i totally understand where you're coming from,,,,but if you look at that metz car (the la rocket),,,i think it works well there without making it look like a fiberglass kit car,,,if it was a small car i think id agree completely,,but i think it would really help with the overall flow,,,make the car almost seamless,,,,

    Jim,

I just came across this Caddy in rbantique photo album.
After reading his post on Norms Auto Body.

Norms Auto Body did this customs... by far not the same as your project... but I figured you would like to see it.

    more playing!
I cut down the doors, welded them up, and moved the whole cockpit back about a foot.
the w/s angle is a little off now , the pic wasn't exactly straight on.
*2nd shot is the original, so you can toggle back and forth..

There was another kind of Cady looking custom called ""The Spook" out of Miami Fla. I helped Gorege Ikecert work on a little more rebuild after it had been built the first time 1957 in 59,car based on a 55 T-Bird really. I lost track of it about 1970,but it was in a few mags, wish I had some pic's to show, maybe sone can find one.
A trick used on it was too flip the windshield upside down for a lower more layback look with out cuting glass.

agreed,,,,,and i decided not to use the curved mock up conduit pieces on the decklid,,so, it'll be have more or less a "boattail" look,, i also moved the whole deck higher in this pic,,i decided the deck had too much of a downward pitch before..,,,,,also,the whole cockpit, deck, and windshield will be moved back approximately 10-12 inches from where it is now (very similar to the photoshop jonzkustomshop did),,

i need a 49-54 chevy hood,,,anyone have one for sale that isnt a million miles away?

Your progress on this custom is great
I thought Rikster did the original photoshop with the extended front and relocation of the screen, and the cleanup of the rear. as posted here.

yeah..he did a fantastic job with that photoshop....helped me realize the existing deck had too much pitch,,,,,,,definitely plan on remedying that problem,,

not a bad idea,,,,,it would kinda mimic the rear end,,,,,the hard part would be actually finding one to graft on,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I think a double spinner Ford grille would be cool, with a different hood and all that though.

I sure do like the new direction that the cockpit is heading in. Much better than any of the bubble top / half top variations you've been playing with. Even though some of those were pretty cool, this new style is so much cleaner and sportier and compliments the lines of the rest of the car so much better. Just plain looks like it would be a blast to drive.

i completely agree,,,,mocking the cockpit up right now,,,basically moved everything back approximatey 8 inches,,,,makes a HUGE difference,,,AND the windshiled will fit even better.....everything see,s to be falling into place,,,,,,,

    aaahhhhh,,,the point of no return,,,,
well,,i guess thats not entirely true,,,,,i COULD always weld it back,,,lolol

    made the cuts,,,,LOVE it,,,,,
the doors will be welded to the body in the interest of SMOOOOTHNESS,,,,
and the cockpit will be a "stepover" design,,,
doing this addressed some other concerns as well,,,,the windshield now fits much better,,,the body will be much more rigid (ie stronger),,,
i will have the buick trim welded into one piece,,and there will be gold expanded metal filling the space below it,,(now without seams for the door),,,the car will flooooowwwwww.

hoping to push the car outside for a pic later on,,,
