So I have a SW Greenline Temp gauge in my merc-mechanical. Since day one of garage time and driving time,it has always showed 180 on the gauge driving-give or take, and will hold temp while idleing in the garage with the (gasp) elec fan on. On warmer days while driving, with temps in the 80's-90's,it will read 190-195. It has a 160 t-stat. Yesterday I put about 125 miles on it,and although it was cooler in the AM,the temp read about 165,and never got higher. Usually the gauge is about 10-20 degrees higher. I have driven in ALL weather conditions,so I know how it acts. So for fun, and to test the gauge- I left the fan off for an extended period of time=5-10 mins, and the gauge got to 195 and I clicked it on.=back to 170. My Q is-can a gauge "settle" to read? Not my first rodeo, and I know what to look for/diagnose,but the sudden drop has me a lil concerned..... The air pocket deal- it's a blown sbc.... =it would have happened by now,and the coolant level is frequently checked. Outside temps- well,it was cooler, and freeway driving with OD on was at 2krpm's. Temp held at 165-170 This whole deal has me a lil concerned regaurding the gauge accuracy... Could've been the outside temp at the time...IDK? Today- ran in the garage with fan on/off= on=165-170 off=got to 195 and flipped the switch.back to 165. Bottom line is that I have never seen a varience such as this.... IDK if i'm missing something,or something is up with the gauge..... Chime in,and be constructive if you can.... Thanks-Kid
