has anyone had any trouble installing mechanical temp gauge in a flathead ? I just put one in and got no reading my temp gun says im running 190 but nothing on gauge seems a pretty easy install just screw into old temp sender location and it should work maybe i missed something I m reurnong it tomorrow for a new one just to make sure

  2. If it is a mechanical gauge , boil the kitchen Jug and drop the sender in ..... you'll know then if the gauge works or not .

If your using it in a flathead, you should have a separate sender for each head. In a flathead engine, there are two cooling systems, the right side and the left side. They mix in the radiator. One side could run appreciably hotter than the other.

If you are using mechanical gauge, then you have to run two of them, one on each side.

If you are using an electrical gauge, then get two of the same sending units and one gauge. Run both the sending unit wires to a double throw switch, and then to the gauge. When you flip the switch, you can read each side.

I did this on my flathead powered T (electrical gauge)
