A friend just offered me a 2.8 and C-3 automatic for free, I was thinking about possibly putting in the old OMS as a temporary measure just to get it running and rolling on its own and possibly making some p***es to motivate until I can get it running with the drivetrain that I wany. Yeah I know it's nowwhere near the rules but at least it is a step forward ... any thoughts ???
Hi Scottv, toymaker started out with an automatic with his little ford six, and then when he got the parts, he went to a standard.
No way, you need to have every screw perfect before you press the starter the first time. NOT !!! Hell yes, get'er up & runnin'. We did the first two seasons with a bone stock mill, too long a transmission, carbs not dialed in (and with SUs that's painful), and an iffy ignition. Took us awhile to work all the bugs out, one by one, but it was a blast running during the work.
Put it together and have some fun while you collect the parts you want for the final result. In the meantime you can get the bugs out of the ch***is and collect some bugs on your teeth from all the grinning while you are running it.
Well, Good luck.. I was told the very same thing, Then got shot out of the saddle after spending time and $$$ getting it going. Got to spend one weekend running the car. Now it just sits...Soooooooooo
Well Tom, I have not done much lately on the car actually because it is stored about an hours drive from my house and the only transportation I have is my motorcycle (not handy for hauling parts) and my Freightliner, which at about 6-7 mpg in not very economical. I have however been working on the front end stuff here, and on the 13th of August plan on being in Neola, IA all day and one of the things I will get done is get the front end under it. All I really need is some 21" tires to get it into roller status ... and I will try to get some good pics. !!!
I might have some 21" tires and tubes. You interested? Not the best but they would roll. Glad to see the bearings worked for you, I got your letter yeasterday. Thanks to you sir, Jeff
Hey Jeff, thanks ... those bearings were way better than expected. I thought I might end up with original ball type bearings. When I saw the rollers it prompted me to check my races. Good thing, I have roller races. Those are good enough to use for final ***embly !!! About the tire, I am interested. How much and what would it take to ship ? Anyhow ... thanks again, look forward to hearing from you ScottV
