I have a irritating tap (crankshaft speed) goes away at about 700 rpms. I am just about sure to positive its a bad wrist pin / bushing. The engine is a 59AB, 1946 Super Deluxe. I have a sweet running EAC Mercury thats in a F6 so its got a truck oil pan, and a Ford intake. So I have done this before 50yrs ago now I got no clue. So my question is, should this Mercury slide right in my 46. I will use my 46 exhaust manifolds, clutch, gen. starter etc. I remember putting a 8BA 239 in a 36 Ford all comes to mind is I had to fiddle with the fan. Reason is this car is all I have and don't want downtime until I rebuild the original 59AB any ideas thanks Sam
The major difference between the early flathead block, through '48 (except trucks) vs later is the early engines had a partial bellhousing integral with the block. Later version used a deeper bellhousing. Water pump engine mount 'arms' and pulleys differed in some versions too. All of that can be dealt with by using the right combination of parts. Since the Merc engine is in your bigger truck, it likely has the needed '49/'51 Merc or '48/'52 truck bellhousing to have mated it to the truck trans. If so, that will work in your '46 as well. Same for the water pumps. Ray
