Hi guys! Working on a 1966 Chevelle Big Block Car. It has a ten bolt rear end with an Eaton posi installed. I did not do the previous work on the rear end. The rear end to this point has been primo. I guess some miles with wear and tear have begun to cause some issues. Hence my question.... before the car was put away last fall (Ohio area). We heard a dragging and a "click" noise. Very evident! Before I take it out this year the car was jacked up and the axel has a lot of end play. Well in excess of an 1/8 of an inch. Major concern, we put a lot of miles on this car each year in the Ohio sunshine! My presumption is that either the pin or the "C" clip are worn. Is this a good place to start? Please help.

I would not think the pin or C clip could wear that bad I think you should be looking at clutches.

Doesn't matter, since you have to take it apart to replace the parts...you'll find it when you get everything apart. I've had clutch plates break, causing some real interesting noises

Thanks for weighing in... I'm gonna pull the cover off it tomorrow. I'm not really hearing the noise at the center hub. I hear more noise out by the wheel hub and bearings. Could the clutch noise transfer like that? Regardless I'll pull the cover, clean it and change the fluid. Special posi fluid I would guess right?

Yes the noise could transfer out but if you pull the cover go ahead and pull the axles and remove all the side gears and inspect the clutches it wont cost anything tell you find worn parts.

If that's the '66 8.2" 10 bolt, you might want to upgrade the axles. There is an additive for posi clutches; I always used the GM stuff.
