@snoop74 - nice work. I sorta dread doing the same once I get to that point.

Here’s my solution to recreate the original wood shape with a steel piece that goes behind the B pillar face plate. I’ll call this piece a “faceplate filler piece”.
Some folks use thick flat bar as a solid piece but I don’t have 1/2” flat bar and chiseling out the curves with the correct shape seemed like more work than I was interested in.
I’m happy with this idea so far. It allows me to place captured nuts for the dovetail door guide. It should be rock solid. It won’t require any precision welding or grinding. The face plate is perfectly flat except for the latch area.
I don’t have thin skin, so feel free to share an opinion.

I need some opinions on paint, I can't make up my damn mind. My '31 coupe is currently red primer and I'm running without fenders and boards- I'm working on getting them in shape and ready to paint. I just can't decide whether to two-tone the car- fenders, aprons and boards one color (probably black) with the body a different color- or paint the whole car one color.
Any thoughts, ideas, opinions? What are some good looking two-tone combos?

Id paint it all one color. I like the two tone jobs but it’s a pain in the ass picking another color. The boards have black rubber right? That should break the color up a bit

  6. prime the fenders black and see how it looks with the red primer body.

Im thinking of filling this area where the hood normally would latch to, as well a getting rid of that “swoop” and add some metal in that same area that drops down to where that lower body bead is. Car looks like it’s sitting on top of the frame cause you can see the front z. Any thoughts upload_2024-10-16_20-10-30.jpeg

  8. good idea...just don't take too many of the original "shapes" away, it will look like a fiberglass car

Honestly, two-tone paint directly reminds me of the original paint jobs (only if you're running fenders and running boards). Mine was originally a Burgandy body with Black fenders. Two tone paint without fenders and running boards also reminds me of the common look of a "street rod"... Traditional? Questionable...

That’s true. I just don’t like that you can see the Z in the frame. It almost makes the car look unfinished. I thought about welding something to the floor bottom right next to it to cover it a bit

Same, I think it also depends on the paint color you decide. If you’re going to do black birds you’d probably want to do a color of that time and not something’s that “flashy” and bright

Brother, I am in 100% agreement with your thoughts. This area that you pointed out are features of a Standard or Master, No?

I think it’s the same on both cars to tbh. There is a handle rod on the hood that slides in and out of there to keep the hood down since it doesn’t have hold downs like a ford. I have a hood but can’t/wont run it cause the custom frame is shorter and I don’t want to cut it up

shouldn't take any shape away. I may just close up that hole and the on the backside shape a peace of metal that drops down a bit and covers that. I think if I extend it I may have to make that whole front piece and all those bends and beads

I like one simple old color. To me two tones seem to take away from the lies.

One with just the relief and hole filled and one with the bottom of the cowl brought down Untitled_Artwork.jpeg Untitled_Artwork.jpeg I’ve been playing with some similar cowl/ rocker Tom foolery so I get it :)

This is awesome!! thanks so much, I think I'll just fill it and see if I can run something on the back side just to cover a portion of the kick up. Not a fan of the cowl being lowered now that I actually see it.

Even a little black gusset to make the triangle vanish would work. You just need the opening to vanish

agreed, would be easier to do that and just weld it to the bottom of the floor right there or something

Hi Mike , I know this is an old post but doing a 34 master rumble seat to trunk conversion and looking to purchase hinges and lid supports to do the swap. Any chance of anyone having these rare parts for purchase ? I would be able to possibly reproduce if I had originals to produce from. Any Help is appreciated, Thanks Doug....Keep up the great work on your Chevy !

    Doug,
I saw your question for Mike.
I am redoing a 1934 Master 5W coupe and I have original trunk hinges, (or at least part of the hinges). Is your master a three window or five window?

Jay, it's a Three window. I can try to check my parts book in the morning to see if they are the same. If you have pictures and price I may be interested ! Thanks

    Doug,
The partial hinges I have are not for sale but I’d be happy to measure them and take as many pictures as you want. I think part of the hinge is missing on both.

Looking tough as usual brother! How much longer is your season for show attending before your '35 is parked for the winter in Texas?

Thanks! Thats a good question lol. It’s the end of October and it was 93 out so I don’t expect anytime soon. The weather here in central Texas gets a little wonky in like Feb. we have one to two more shows I actually care about next week and the following week.. after that I’ll get back on body work, then interior
Appreciate it! Cant wait to get this body work process over with so I can just drive this thing
