Termites and Bowties- Early Chevy Group

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 29bowtie, Jan 7, 2009.

  1. Great thread! I got more info here than anywhere else so far. And, more from the links suggested. I've been trolling for info for 6 months. I'll bet more than a few BOP termite guys have not even looked in here. That's my
    '33 Olds below.

Not too many of these '33s around when I show up somewhere. I keep wanting to give it a "do over" but then can't stand the thought of not being able to go out and jump in and go to town till its done......

Good looking car. It looks narrow through the grille and hood. Is that the mercury body style, or the master???? ghost

O.K. I have posted some pictures of the steel structure in my car. and nash has brought up the point that old chevys have wood. And that's what makes them old chevys. And some guys prefer to replace the wood when needed. So if that is you. Than how about some pictures of the wood rebuild. I know I don't have the wood working skills. but I admire those of you that do thanks ...ghost

  7. I'm with you on the woodworking skills, but I've saved these pics from various places,to help understand the jigsaw puzzle of wood that came with my car. The one b&w pic is the factory jig used to assemble the structure. Also thanks to everyone that has come out of the "woodwork" to contribute to the "Termites and Bowties"group.

  15. Any of you guys running the original steering box with your cars? I have a really tight 32 box, and was thinking about putting it in the 30, because I can't see buying another box if this will work.

I'm definitely in! I need some help fellas I'm in need of a body tag and matching title for a 32 Chevy 5 Window!

  20. Steve...
the body tag, it's kinda like hens teeth and usually fell off the cars in the late 30's. It was nailed in the pass side door jam...in the wood. Get a cheap harbor freight punch kit, make a small brass tag and put it somewhere....DMV will never know the difference. Keep an eye on epay for the titles, they show up now and then, there have been one or two in the classifieds, plus swap meets are coming soon, and i'll keep any eye open for one for ya. did your buddy ever get his straitened out?

  21. shameless plug for parts...

yes i know this should be in the wanted ads but it would drop faster than a dress on prom night....but if any of you are stripping out a 32 chevy and thinking about selling off parts...remember me.
within the next month (or when the weather gets decent) i'll be getting/starting my 32 5 window, it's been 14 YEARS of begging with my dad for this body! I'm only getting the body, just picked up a frame last month and will be needing almost everything. Planning on a full fendered non chopped non channeled coupe...redoing what my dad built in 59-60 with his ORIGINAL body! Only making a few upgrades to what he an my grandpa built back then. I know stuff like the fenders are reproduced, but since i have not sold my 31 pickup yet, I plan on doing as much as possible on a budget. Hopes and plans are for the pileup 09 to atleast be running.

I'll update as parts come together and the project really starts...

Thanks for doing this Bowtie. I was beginning to think that I was the only one dumb enough to try to build an old chevy. Mine is a 34 pick up.

How authentic do you want to be.......Brass tag may be the best if you just want to mark the car..........else, a Dude on ebay was peddling these tags a couple of weeks ago. If i remember correctly he has un-stamped NOS......Said he had the correct dies and could stamp your number if you provide them. Do a search in ebay for 31 chevy............
