I agree, I had someone "attempt" to repair my door, and obviously couldn't pull it off. Need to find the right guy.

Gotta tell you... Your Phaeton is downright gorgeous! And the first time seeing one in Chevrolet steel! Really looking forward to seeing your progress on your Roadster.

  3. Hey mike
No low ball offers from here , one guy that has the 34 sedan delivery has more money than god and likely 150 cars .
the car is unrestored , and not drivable.
the other is owned by our pal randy , he sold his 34 phaeton recently though .
the 36 and 37 sedan deliveries are in a container in pei . were beautiful cars when I helped him store them 20 years ago

Whoever bought that 34 phaeton is in for a lot of work, I think he ( randy ) had it priced right. He had all the wood I believe and if so can be duplicated. I made the drive to London a couple of years ago to specifically look at the phaeton. I wasn't prepared to take on that challenge. One only has so much time on this planet and if I was 30 years younger I might consider it. He had enough extra 34-35 standard series parts and accessories to make a nice one.

Right now you can buy an older restored 34 or 35 phaeton for $30G and start from there and it really makes more sense to do one of those than take on a full street rod build . If the paint , upholstery, top is all good, its just pull body and redo the driveline.

I was under the impression that Randys 34 S D ?? master series, I forget, was for sale when I was there. I ran into a picture of the SD recently but I forget whether 34 master or 35 standard ???
The guy with 150 cars and tons of $$$$ , not much you can do there..........Al Webster ?

Still waiting to get to use the 33 coupe trunk lid I bought from you for my 35 std roadster, needs narrowed side to side and top to bottom, but the shape roll over the panel is correct.

Apologize for the MESS inside the body, but right know, committed 300% to restoring and strengthening my original chassis. Hope these photos help you in any way djgj74: 20171111_183400.jpg 20171111_183423.jpg 20171111_183454.jpg 20171111_183808.jpg 20171111_183830.jpg 20171111_183957.jpg 20171111_184245.jpg 20171111_184515.jpg 20171111_184532.jpg 20171111_184707.jpg 20171111_184725.jpg

You will probably have to inquire at restoration shops and find one that does good work. Problem is trying to get a shop to do just a door. These kind of jobs fall into the cracks and get left to the side. Might have to use the " you do a quality job on this, theres the rest of the car at home " . But set a time limit on getting it done otherwise before you know it a year has passed and no door.

Not sure how hard to find 31-32 doors, but keep searching and placing wanted adverts in like hemmings motor news, with a CALL ME COLLECT. Tells people your not playing around.

Believe me Mike, I've been searching for a passenger door since '95 when I bought the rod. They are extremely hard to find. Nowadays, parts for Chevy cars are a bit more available as they are becoming much more popular. Only the few can afford to pay top dollar for a Ford body, let alone the younger generation. This is the main reason why more enthusiasts are buying early Chevy bodies. Fine by US!!!

You want to see a truly outstanding 35 Chevrolet phaeton , check out the Rydell "grand national roadster show winner " of 2014. Body is stretched ( thru the cowl area ) as is frame. Easily a $500 G plus build . Love the car hate the wheels. I have pictures of the car in my files, see if I can find them.

I only know of 4 phaetons 34-35 made into street rods. Considering the 240 and 217 original production that's a lot.

Seriously 31 B'ville... These photos of the complete wood frame on a hot rod are some of the COOLEST photos I've seen in some time! So you're telling us that you slip the body over this structure and nail it strategically to the wood?

JOE, THE PICKUP IS LOOKING A WHOLE LOT BETTER THAN LAST TIME I SAW IT, 2013 ? ..YOU HAD IT ON THE BUILD AND ALSO YOU WERE ALSO SIMULTANEOUSLY WORKING ON THE 33 COUPE. One car is trouble enough but two at once is non stop work.

Found this outstanding phaeton - you're right - can't stand the wheels. What was he thinking?

Wes Rydell Phaeton.jpg Wes Rydell Phaeton Interior.jpg Wes Rydell Phaeton Engine.png Wes Rydell Phaeton With Whitewalls.jpg Wes Rydell’s 1935 Chevy Phaeton. No, it’s not a roadster, but is considered a “roadster with a back seat” by the car manufacturers of the day. As it has no roll up windows and uses the sheetmetal of a roadster from the front doors forward, phaetons and touring cars [which is what they called phaetons before the late-20s] have always been considered a roadster in the eyes of hot rodders and the Grand National Roadster Show [GNRS].

Respond to his ad and ask him if his '32 Chevy door is the same for a '31 Chevy.
I would contact the guy in his ad on here and find out if they're the same door. Also, contact PBRmeASAP here on the HAMB as he owns a '32 Chevy Five Window Coupe. His father knows the car very well.

I'm thinking the same too, but I'm not 100% positive. I could take measurements on my door to compare with the '32 measurements.

  29. measure the hinge spacing. i think i remember finding doors [4dr] but the hinge location was different.

Really , a Phaeton is a Roadster with a back seat, in the eyes of hot rodders and the GNRS , established in 1947. And its all based on the cowl section, that's a new one on me.
Some of the new euro cars and corvette are calling their cars roadsters in the ads, when really all they are are convertibles . Ad guys would say anything to make a car sound more sexy and lets throw out an old term, get the buyers all stoked up. In what galaxie-universe is a corvette or Porsche a roadster.........answer none !

MY interpretation of roadsters and phaeton style designations is as follows. :
A roadster is a 2 door 2 passenger open car with a folding top, and folding open windshield
A phaeton /touring is a 4 door 4 passenger open car with folding top, and folding open windshield

Neither of the above have roll up windows and are equipped with snap on cloth curtains with glass or plastic windows.

Cabriolets or convertibles have 2 doors , a fixed windshield with roll up side windows and folding top
Convertible sedans have 4 doors, a fixed windshield with roll up all sides windows and folding top

You can google this and find all kinds of wacky tabacy MJ induced reasoning.
