Ya i got a little bit of a start but the rear of the frame needs to be Z'd yet and the four link in the rear needs hung along with the coilovers. Those pics were all mock up with jack stands holding everything in place. The only thing fully welded is the front suspension so far.

Yeah mink. pretty simple really. What I did was cut the firewall out right at the seam where it meets the body. Not through the spot welds. Then when I had it on my bench. I added a 4 inch reccess made from 18 guage steel all the way around. Welding it solid from the back side to keep the front side clean. Also at this time I filled all the not needed holes. Then slid the firewall back in and welded it up solid, and grind the new lip clean. I also put numerous spot welds on the back side where I could reach with my welder. make sure the fill piece of steel is a little longer at both ends so it can be folded at the bottom like in the picture. for finish work later on. Thanks for the interest ...ghost

I got the body off a scraper that works out of an old bomb factory from WW2.I want something more streetable than Dickies hotrod.

Scored these nice doors!Yes, thats the frame the Hoodlum sheetmetal came from.I'm planning on cutting it up for the 32,I really like the lines of that series frame.Torsion bars up front on a CAE straight axel and the stock springs out back with a 55 chevy rear.I've got enough to make a good run at it when the Hoodlums done.

Whoa! That's way over my head. It sounds really cool though. I have been reading up on torsion bar front whether it be early 50's indy stuff or the Torsion T Roadster that was a part of the Early Times Club. Stuff is way rad.

Check out the axel and torsion bars on the Spaulding T.Look how the levers lay behind the axel and the torsion bars along the frame. It's set up front and back like that.A lot of the early legend cars at the GNRS were sporting the same suspensions.I spent a lot of time at that show looking at the early suspensions.

^^^^^That's one clean and purposeful chassis right there^^^^^^^^^

I should have been walking around with you instead of my wife. I'm sure you would have schooled me all day about the details on those cars.

If your in the area come by for a marshmallow roast. I took out and saved all the old wood and carefully labeled it so I would have patterns to make the steel frame. Well this week I finished with the structure of the cab. Got the doors rebuilt and hung. I am really surprised how well they fit I got an even 1/8 inch margin all the way around the doors.

I replaced the latches with bear claws they seem a little safer.

Nice job... I like the bear claws. On my 28 the latches were really good so I elected to reuse them. But I got a set of claws just in case I change my mind. Yeah and as far as the wood replacement. Some times having wood is not a good thing. MORE PICS PLEASE...ghost

Ghost.. I am really glad to get rid of the wood. It had deteiorated so much that the longest piece is about 18" long, didn't get me much of a pattern to make the steel frame. The other challenge was the driverside A post was missing. Tryied to find one on the internet with no success. So I made one from new metal.

I'll second that way to go!

Your pile of parts looks like the pile o parts I started with. Does anyone know what the floor sections look like in these trucks? I am trying to stay faithful to the original design in the rebuild of mine ( a '34).
I know they were mostly wood but it seems like I have seen a picture of a floor section with an integral seat riser that was mostly stamped save for the toeboard and foot sections. This might have been from a '36? Anyone have any pictures, measurements, floor sections for sale (ha!)

Cactus 1 My floor was gone when I got it. Two ideas for you first my son is building a 40 pu. We have been comparing the two trucks and there are almost the same except his is steel and mine is wood. I have used a lot of dimensions from his to build mine and it has worked so far. I could shoot some pict of his floor and take measurements for you if you like. The other is I saw a picture on a thread from KentuckyFried34 where you could see the wood box that the seat sat on maybe you can get some pictures from him.
