Just curious, aside from wheel bolt pattern, there aren't a lot of '31 parts the same as '32. Radiator shell, fenders, doors, etc are different. I'm wondering what donor parts will cross over?

And just to correct the mis-define, not to diss, just to inform....
Early Chevys, up until 1932 never used the term sedan on any two door models. Sedans had 4 doors. The two door (like a sedan) was called a Coach. Go figure.

In '33, they had a Coach, and(swaying to the term) had a 2 door "Town Sedan". After that they, reluctantly, started naming the 2 door sedan what it really was! A 2 door Sedan!

Here's a few pics of my Pop's 1930 Chev, 4 door sedan SPECIAL. Wish I'd known about this site when I took this project on :D It was pretty rough when we got it, picked it up for $7500 with barrels & boxes of parts, the wood door panels were pretty much gone so I put steel frames in them an elec. windows, the cowl lites are an add on ( Pop wanted them ) and the outside door handles are actualy 1932 fords, rebuilt the hydroglide tranny, and the engine. I've got some pics of the interior I'll post up tomorrow. This is pretty much my Dad's daily driver, IF it's not snowing in Idaho :D

any of you guys have a pair of rear fenders for a 32 coupe.I understand all body styles fit

  16. Yah, my dad always corrects me, but most people will understand tudor vs. coach....
Cowl band, dash, running boards and splash apron, gas tank, tank cover, and some misc bolts will really help me out. My dad's doing a 31 cabriolet, so the front sheet metal and fenders will get him rolling too. The torque tube is spoken for, and the frame/body will sit in my barn till i'm get my 32 done, and i'll probably wack the roof off it and make a touring/tub-ish thing outta it, something that's been in the back of my head for years....

I believe the fenders on the 32 are one year only. Cause of the design in the edge roll. but if you're not picky. I think a few of the earlier years will bolt on I don't have any. But some one else might on here...ghost

Good to know, I didn't realize that many of the parts were the same, thanks for that. An 'open car' 'touring' clone would be fun.

I'm in with 2 of them now... Started off with a mostly complete/minus wood and apart 30 Chevy coupe that I traded for a 71 Suburban. Still have to pick up the cowl and pass front fender, headlights and a few other misc parts from the 30...

Then a buddy of mine on the HAMB spotted this 29 Chevy coupe minus roof/decklid/chassis/wood for a good price so I bought it too! Picking up in a few weeks.

Plans are to use the best from the two to make the coupe up. No chop or channel, full fendered. The remaining stuff I will throw together to make a fun little roadster out of. :D

    I don't scare easily:eek:

Well here it is... my newest Chevrolet...

it's a 1920 Chevrolet 490 coupe, it was restored by the "Number One" team at the Chevrolet plant in St. Louis, Mo. for the 50th Anniversary of the plant opening in 1970.

look at that powerhouse 4 cylinder, I'm still amazed that thing runs so smooth.

It's neat I guess, but it really just a piece of art...LOL!

I still have more fun with my Big Block '33 Chevy Coupe!

well....ive got a question for all you that have chopped one of these before
anyone do it and still keep the wood in? only reason im asking is because the wood in mine is in good shape so id rather not open a can of worms and replace it all.
also i was wondering if(doubtful but who knows) you did chop with the wood did you splice the wood together with screws and wood glue? and how would you brace the body?
yeah i know.....dumb questions but if it was steel i wouldnt be asking

I've done it both ways, doing the wood route on a couple. It's a lot more work than just ripping out the wood and converting steel structure.

There's a big problem with the wood when you are welding, that old dried out wood catches fire at the least spark, it's dry as tinder. Once it catches, it smolders and is difficult to extinguish. I would go with a combination of 3/4" and one inch square tubing for the support structure, a lot less work.

  27. Hey guys,

Asked this question on the group board but didn't get an answer-

If I'm looking at an early frame/chassis ('27-'31), how do I know what year it is (excluding vin #)?

    Thanks, Bill

I believe 28 to 31 are pretty much the same frame. The 27 frame gets a little thinner in the rails. The wheel base on 32 and up, gets longer by about 3 inches I believe. If you can get some pics of the frame you are looking at that would help in sorting them out for you. Oh and if there is fuel fill hole on one side, and another hole of like size on the other side for the fuel guage on the rear pan. It is most likely 28 or 29 they used to make you get out of the car to check fuel level back then...John
