We qualified okay and got in the show. Everything was looking good until the call for first round. We went to warm up the car, and nothing but raw fuel and flames came out of the zoomies (and all over me - the warm-up driver). We thrashed like dogs to find the problem, finally finding the mag drive had sheared off at the oil pump! While pondering our return route to Oregon, a p***erby casually mentioned he used to have a mag in his '92, and pulled it out in 1984. It might still be under a stack of parts in the back of his trailer - he'd go check. Sure enough, he quickly returned with the worlds crustiest Vertex magneto, complete with Accell plug wires so old, they'd turned white! We slammed it home, rewired the car (it had been running a modern MSD mag), set the points and fired it, with about 5 minutes to get to the line! Here we are, walking off some nervous energy. Notice we're at the end of the line - just barely made it. With the new mag, we ran a 7.70 and a too quick 7.45 (oosp!)...........
